Avis - New to Avis: How do I maximize points/miles for Italy rental?

Hi!

I have a trip coming up to southern Italy where I will need to rent a car (with Avis - contract requires it) for 87 days. I have never rented with Avis in the US or abroad, so I'm not too familiar with the program.

In reading this forum it looks like Avis will probably not do a status match (and for Italy I doubt it would matter), and I'm not too concerned about upgrades for this trip, but I would really like to maximize the points or miles from this rental.

Any tips?

If you can rent for 3 days and then swap and rent again.
You can get these points as long as it's out by dec 31.
