I read through the Virgin Atlantic website and noticed that one can earn tier points through Virgin America flights. Thus Gold status would get one free Club entry for a year, when flying Virgin America or any other airline? Their website does not say you need to fly Virgin to use their lounge, if you are a Gold.

If this is true, this would be a great thing, plus the points status points earned from MCO would be 2-3 points per flight. As I understand it, 40 points is Gold.

Unless something changed in the last year, you indeed must be flying VS in order to use the clubhouse with VS Gold. The only thing VS Gold does is to allow you to use the clubhouse when you are not in Upper Class.
