Why not?
Staying in one hotel means not moving, and having daily maid and hotel services.
Probably a discount involved as well.:)

It always surprises me how unwilling many hotel chains to offer long stay discounts. Hilton are particularly bad, and in my experience won't offer a single cent off the nightly rate even for a stay of nearly 3 months. All I can assume is that they expect to fill all rooms anyway.

Agreed.. hotels should see long stays as lessening vacancy gaps, and should reward travellers with incentives to stay longer.
Revpar is the holy grail standard of the hotel industry.. an empty room means $0 averaged out..

Do these hotels have a micro and a fridge?
Just finished a looooooooong stay at a horrible lower-caste hotel. Awful. We're talking months here. For work. :( But I have to stay at hotels with some basic self service amenities and I thought higher end hotels usually lack these. Not that the Evil Company would pay for such a thing, just curious.
If staying for a month or more, you could almost certainly ask the hotel to clean out the minibar fridge so you could use it for milk, etc. It's very rare for higher end hotels to have microwave ovens though. I guess you could buy one and install it yourself!

For higher end hotels, microwaves mean outside food competition that hurts their bottom lines.
I've seen high end hotels have microwaves, but generally in vacation resorts, where groceries sold on site is at a premium.. and generally hotels that have extended stays..

That's a good idea. You could get a cheap used microwave on Craigslist and then just give it away at the end of your trip.

You can usually buy a new microwave for $40-50. Minifridges are probably $100 at discount houses. Still, if staying for more than a week, probably worth it.

The time money and trouble.. is it worth it?
Can you purchase the appliances and return them? Not my style though and would never do that..

...and return it for a refund before you leave. ;)
I wouldn't want to stay at a Hilton for a long time. It may be good for a few days but for more time you want different things - more than just a bed, a bathroom and a TV (stuff like a couch, a fridge, a microwave, some dishes, etc.) There are many kinds of long term hotels offering all that.

I stayed at the Hilton Cardiff for 7 months (3 weeks a month). The break home was nice, but I loved this hotel. I got to know the staff and we would sometimes just hang out talking if things were quiet. They were awesome considering that for 9 of those weeks, I was on crutches. I got to know the staff at a couple of local restaurants too.
I'd say that was my favourite assignment. Better than the crazy two day trips from LAX to BSB or GRU
