Hi-
My family is traveling overnight on the Capitol Limited from WAS to CHI in a family bedroom. I have two little girls (ages 4 and 2) and am concerned that they may roll out of their beds in the middle of the night.

I've done searches in this forum, on the Amtrak site and Youtube and there isn't any information on how to prevent kids from rolling out of the beds. When I asked a booking agent (via telephone) he mentioned some type of netting that you could hook up to ensure the kids don't fall out of the beds.

Have any of you seen this netting and used it for your kids? Also, if anyone has any pictures or videos to share what this netting looks like, I would appreciate it if you could post it or direct me to where I can see it.

Thanks!

1) they'll be tucked in with the sheets
2) there is a 'cargo net' in every upper bunk that attaches to the ceiling to prevent a major roll out

If they are sleeping in 'big girl' beds already, and not rolling out, there's not much to worry about.

And some pictures, may need to scroll around in various threads to see them:

Those are my nieces in the picture in post #7 at the first link provided by byronczimmer. The younger one sleep down below, while the older one who was 6 IIRC at that time slept in that upper bunk. And it is important to note that only the upper bunk has those safety straps. The lower bunk does not. But as noted, they tuck the sheets in quite tightly, so one is unlikely to roll out.

This photo was shot in a Family room on the Auto Train. You can just see the corner of the upper adult sized bed on the left side of the photo. You can just see the pillow sitting on the lower child's bed, and they put the head at the adults feet. So I would put the two year old in that bunk, that way if she did roll by some chance, odds are that she'd roll right onto the adult bed anyhow.

The two year old is likely to be too small to be properly restrained by that safety strap in the upper bunk. The four year old however should be good to go up top. Of course keeping the peace about why one gets the upper bunk could be another matter.
