For me the Complimentary Upgrades are actually the Last Minute Upgrades. They still cost point but they cost only half the point you earn on that flight and they are done after the flight is closed for check-in. There are not "complimentary" upgrades or rather they are extremely rare (i.e. during August when all the families are vacation traveling)

What do you mean?

I mean that matmid gives little benefits (or none) if you have low status. And very little "reak" benefits if you have gold.
