Finnair Plus - Any chance to bump my status to Silver early - should I write to Finnair?

I recently flew on the WAW-HEL-SIN route and back in C, and my calculations showed that this trip alone will qualify me for Silver status.

On the day of my SIN-HEL flight I received a phone call with some bad news about the flight being delayed by almost 4 hrs. So instead of departing on Thursday at 11:45pm it was moved to 3:30am, which was disappointingly annoying to say the least...

As it was inevitable that I would miss my HEL-WAW connection, AY was kind enough to rebook me on the next flight which was on LO, also in C. Kudos to them for doing that.

Although they haven't credited the SIN-HEL flight to my account yet, am I right to assume they won't give me any miles for the HEL-WAW connection since they moved me to LO? If so, is there any chance of them bumping my status early as I was originally scheduled to fly with them and would have done so if not for that almost 4 hr delay out of SIN?

I would just call the AY Plus service and try to sort it out with them. I have no experience dealing with Finnair in a situation like this, but usually if requested airlines will credit you the miles as per original reservation in case of rerouting.

Since the flight should have been with AY flight number and AY metal and you are crediting to AY programme, they will give you the points if you insist. This is in their rules. Might be helpful to find the exact § of the rules and state it to the agent over the phone as they might not be aware of this. I've had this done once.

In practice, you will most likely also get miles from the LOT flight if you retroclaim to a *A programme... ;)

Many thanks guys, I did as you guys said and called them up to see if this could be sorted out.

At first it seemed like I wouldn't get the points as I was moved to a non-OW carrier, but when I pointed out that this last leg was supposed to take me over the threshold into Silver status they agreed that I would be double-hurt by the miles loss and promised to look into it and get back to me with further information.

Shortly afterwards I received an email from them that the miles have been added to my account as per the original booking, and that I will make Silver status. :)

Many thanks Finnair, I look forward to flying with you again very soon, this time with the entire family! ^ :-:
