Disability Travel - Wheel Chair accessible river cruises in Europe

I have a dear co-worker, in his 60's, whose wife is wheel chair bound. They have always wanted to go to Europe together, but didn't think they could because flying in coach wasn't an option for them. Now that I have gotten smarter on the mileage game, I want to help them go in either F or J, which would be doable.

They would like to take a river cruise in Europe. They like the idea of the ship being a home in which they can explore from. I haven't found great information if river cruises are wheelchair accessible. I have a feeling most are not so. Does anyone have any experience they can share?

This is a once in a lifetime trip for them. I am leaning towards recommending they rent a car and travel from town to town at their own pace. They are not too picky on where they go - he would like to got Eastern Europe, she likes the idea of Southern. I am open to all suggestions on how to make a dream come true for them.

Thank you!

Holland America Line (http://www.hollandamerica.com/cruise-vacation-planning/PlanningAndAdvice.action?tabName=Shipboard+Life&contentMenu=Accessible+Cruising&contentSubMenu=Holland+America+Line:+Committed+to+ Serving+Everyone) does European Cruises and they have handicap accessibility. I've not taken any of these cruises, only reviewed information on their website.

I have used a wheelchair for the past 30 years and my husband and I cruise extensively. I would need have more details with regards to your friend to suggest what options may be the most suitable.

Sincerely,
