Korean Air Skypass - does KE have fuel surcharges? transferring my AMEX miles

i was originally planning to transfer my AMEX miles to Aeroplan and flying OZ. however, they recently announced fuel surcharges for Star Alliance partners, which includes OZ.

so, my next option would be to fly KE. would i be better off and save money by transferring my miles to KE?

Yes they do - unless you redeem using DL points originating from USA.

DL doesn't collect YQ for KE regardless of route, as best as I can tell. I'm flying FRA-ICN-MEL and no YQ was collected on that portion of the award, despite the award having a European origin and therefore being subject to YQ collection as much as possible (for instance, on LHR-AMS-FRA).

i'll be flying LAX to ICN. so i guess what i have to do is transfer my miles to Delta and use it with KE.

for OZ, the fuel surcharge is going to start on November 30. i won't be able to book my flight until late December to January.

First you should call DL to make sure that the award is available for your dates. If it is, then you can transfer online while the agent is on the phone. They should show up in your account almost instantaneously.

Or you could ask the agent to put the award on hold (only if you currently don't have enough miles).

Yeah, I think I might have gotten $1 or $2 collected, but given that I had $300+ in MH YQ and ~$100 in KL YR, it was hard to tell what might have been KE's fault.
