Hilton still lists this award as available but has a disclaimer near the top of the page: “Effective January 1, airline tickets will no longer be available with VIP Only hotel rewards”. They stipulate later on the page: http://www.hilton.com/en/hhonors/rewards/vip.jhtml airline awards are available as part of “Vacation Reward” package. Anyone looking at this would be very confused. “Effective January 1” When, what year? Hilton if you are reading this you will have to do a little better job of informing the public of what it is you are doing or what message you wish to convey on this page.
A friend called Hilton today and was told these awards were discontinued effective Jan 1, 2002. I know this is true because I read these boards and even though I have encouraged him to scan this site occasionally, I doubt he does. He states he has never received any notice of these awards being discontinued and asked me: if I received and official notification. I admitted, I have not received anything official, and wonder if anyone else has been told officially of the changes in the program.
My friend was informed by Diamond desk: he and his wife could still go to Australia using Hilton points this summer but he would have to purchase two AP4 airline awards at 250,000 points each and one GLON award for 100,000 points (6 nights hotel) if purchased before June 1,2003. Total points for equivilent of GLO9 which was 350,000 points and is now 600,00 and going up to 650,000 on June 1,2003. This was done with no warning and is not really fair to those who were saving for this award. At the least Hilton should clear up the ambiguity at its website so people who are saving for this award can know it is futile!
