Hilton HHonors - HGI - MSY Airport, Kenner, LA

Any experiences here at the Hilton Garden Inn at the New Orleans airport in Kenner, LA?

Don't expect too much. It is a typical HGI. The hotel is located a few minutes from the airport. They have a shuttle which takes you to/from the airport. However, it is a long way to Big Easy. I remember spending something like $30-40 on cab one way...

There's a casino nearby but I've never been there. The hotel is located in a very remote place that I didn't feel secure to walk outside by myself http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif. I remember staying at the hotel restaurant for dinner - BIG MISTAKE - bad food and bad service.

There is inexpensive and frequent bus shuttle service between MSY and New Orleans. You may want to take the hotel shuttle to the airport and use this to go into town.

I think it is $1.50 and it drops you off in the Central Business District, within walking distance to the French Quarter.

The hotel is decent, typical HGI, but got lots of attitude from the front desk on the phone and in person. The shuttle took forever to get to the hotel after waiting 25 minutes at the airport (I called). Walk in rate was also cheaper than my reserved rate and they did adjust.

Stay at the Hilton across from the airport if you want to be near MSY...much more convenient.

Thanks for the comments. I'm actually working in Kenner and this was where we had an arranged rate. I also got a cheaper rate calling reservations. The rate online was $149 so I booked that (for the bonus) and then called the hotel who transferred me to central reservations. They had a $79 Winter Escapes rate which was better than our corporate rate.

Like all HGIs, if you've been to one, you've been to this one. There is a scary looking apartment complex near this one. Kenner isn't much.

This is the perfect spot if you're in Kenner and a horrible one for anything else.

It is right across from Lake Pontchartrain and Treasure Chest Casino, which is pretty popular among locals. Quite a few eating establishments along Williams and Esplanade. I've never been inside, but I go to the Convention hall next door every now and then for boat shows, home shows, etc. It is not such a bad place. Typical New Orleans metro area.
