DiningBuzz! - Chopped: Lunch Lady Edition

Anybody else catch the Lunch Lady edition of Chopped last night? It was actually very touching. They brought on 4 cafeteria cooks for low income area schools and let them compete. One of the judges was the White House chef who's big on nutrition. They turned out some credible chow, although not quite the level we usually see - and the ingredients were less exotic.
But it was very, very well done, and I was happy when they had them all back out at the end for special recognition.

Thanks for sharing! I'm hopeful that my GF has that one Tivo'd, as we usually watch and enjoy the show.

I really enjoyed it and was happy that they were not given strange ingredients to work with.

Saw that one last night. Very cool! They should throw in a few different 'editions' of Chopped more often.

I am a sucker for Food Network shows...I watched this one. Usually I am not the one to be emotional watching TV - but this was very touching.

I just wish they'd all gotten the 10K at the end - each and every one of them deserved it. I actually got choked up when the all expressed what at honor it was for them to be on Chopped and how it was a something they never conceived could possibly happen. I loved "my daughter thinks I'm a movie star now."

I thought they might have all got the $10k. They are getting CIA instruction. I love the show.
I REALLY expected tater tots to be an ingredient in one of the rounds.

I haven't finished watching it, and I know they didn't get as wild of ingredients as some (and I don't find them too wild normally from a personal standpoint, I love mixing odd things!), but their Apps looked better than many of the professional chefs on the show.
I thought the beggar's purse was a neat way to do it, and the woman using goat cheeses ^

That sounds like a really cool episode. I told my wife to look for a rerun of it to tape.
I ate at a burger place a few days ago who's chef won two times on Chopped. the burger was decent, nothing amazing...

Amanda Freitag was weeping freely when all the kids came out at the end. And even though I usually keep a stiff upper lip, so was I. :)
