I'm going to have a longish (~8 hour) layover on a trip in early 2012, and can either do it at FCO or LIN. Any particular recommendations for which is the best bet? I'm STE+ so lounge access would be a plus, as would any opportunity to get out of the airport for a few hours and tour around.

Your suggestions are much appreciated!

I'd certainly go for FCO, mainly because it is more likely that you'll get nicer weather down in Rome compared to Milan at that time of year. You could just jump on a train to the city centre and spend some quality time there. It will take you about one hour and a half for going / getting back [by train], say 3 / 4 hours visiting monuments and enjoying a nice meal / walk and you would have already spent 5 / 6 hours.

+1, but account for 1 hour each way, + security.

Yep another vote for FCO. Depending on time of day sometimes a taxi or private driver can get into town in 30mins (but do allow an hour)
