Hello ~ I am confused about some of the Avis perks, and hope someone can help.

I have Avis First and Avis Preferred status/cards. I can not figure out what the difference is between the two, and which is better. Neither card has a date on it, although I had the Preferred card first. My online profile says Avis First. Did Avis First replace Avis Preferred? I still see Preferred lines when I get my cars, and I am treated the same as before. Can anyone explain?

I recently got the Amex Platinum card, and on the Hertz site, I was able to enter all my club #'s so that I can just choose one from the drop down list, to see which rate is best, when making my reservation. I did not see a way to enter more than one AWD # to my Avis profile. Is this possible? Am I missing it? Can anyone with the Amex Plat card tell me if your rentals are better with Amex--upgrades, rates, etc.? Just trying to decide if I even need to worry about changing/updating my profile...

Thanks!

Avis Preferred is just a program to get quicker rentals when you get to the airport. Anyone can get it without any rental requirements.

As for Avis First, you need a certain number of rentals for this program and it gives you free rentals after a while (as long as you don't get airline miles for your rentals). However, upgrades are pitiful here, too.

Thank you for the reply, IAH.

I did not know that there are no requirements for Preferred membership. About Avis First--I think you can still get the free rewards even when taking points with other companies. I always take my car rental points as airlines miles or hotel points, and I still received a couple free weekend coupons this year (I had thought they came from my First membership, but was not sure). I was not able to use them before they expired, since I do not rent much for leisure or on weekends. If that is the only advantage of First membership over Preferred, I suppose I will not be disappointed, if I lose that at the end of the year.

I double dip with Avis First and my Avis corporate account.

Since 95% of my rentals are 2 or 3 days:

-16 paid rental days = one free rental day from my corporate account;
- same 16 paid days = 2 free weekend rentals from Avis First;

I make all my rentals through Ebates so I get the 3% cash back and I usually use the US preferred or AA coupon codes to get my miles. All cash, free days and miles have posted without any issues.
