Quoting the T&C from Post #1 above: "An Eligible Award Stay is defined as an Award Stay which is paid for in full with Gold Points for one or more consecutive nights at the same Participating Property, regardless of the number of check-in or check-outs during that stay."
The Radisson Orlando - International Drive is a Category 1 hotel. They charge a $10 resort fee. Paying the resort fee doesn't disqualify an award stay at that hotel from this promotion, does it?
Edit -- Just got off the phone with a very helpful Club Carlson rep. He assured me that paying the resort fee at this property, or any other property, does not disqualify the stay from qualifying for the 9,000 point refund. Good to go!

The clause in the T&Cs quoted by YourNameHere is there obviously to disqualify "Cash & Points" stays. The Resort Fee will not disqualify U. I suppose it would be treated as an incidental charge if charged at all.
Indeed, some Radissons such as the Blu of St. Martin, Caribbean, exempts award stays from the Resort Fee, because they believe that Free Should Mean Free! ^ :)

Oh, you can count on the fact that they will charge you the resort fee. Orlando hotels that have such will always charge it.
I think you will be fine at that hotel - I was even thinking of booking there myself. Please post back with a recap if you can.
Question for anyone - If I book using the points and then I have to cancel (say, a week prior - plenty of advance notice) do I forfeit the points or will they get credited back to my account? Thanks for any answers.

Never mind! I just answered my own question by booking for Jan 22. The reservation clearly spells out that you can cancel and get your points back, as long as you don't cancel at the last minute:
Cancellation Policy:
Cancel today thru Jan 20 2012 = No penalty
Cancel Jan 21 2012 thru Jan 22 2012 = FORFEIT ALL Gold POINTS FOR THE ENTIRE STAY.

Also hypothetically, can I have someone else use their 45,000 points under this promo and can I in turn stay for 10 days straight (check out after 5 days, then check in again) under this promo? Will the other person have any issues making the award stay for me from their account? TIA

You can certainly "alternate"nights with a friend 5+5 (via checking in and checking out everyday). That is, NO consecutive stays for anyone. However, your friend may make a booking by including you as an authorized person to his/her award stays so that you can check in. However, I am not sure how front desk will react if you check in 5 times as an "authorized" person when the main account holder is not around.

I would say that there's a pretty decent chance that if you talk to management you can arrange for them to leave you in the same room for the 10 days. You might need to stop by the front desk each day to do a 'check out' and 'check in' but you don't need to actually vacate the room.
I've not done this with Carlson, but I have with other chains in similar situations. The property itself has no reason not to oblige -- they get reimbursed very well for award bookings, i.e. the cost of this is most likely all on corporate. Plus, I imagine it's easier to tidy / freshen a room than to to clean one from scratch.

Just checked into the hotel. First impression: very impressed. The folks at the registration desk are very friendly and helpful. First arrived a little past noon and rooms weren't ready yet. No problem, plenty to do while we wait. I tactfully asked if, being we were gold elites, there were any upgrades available. We were cheerfully upgraded to a business class room -- corner room on 4th floor with coupons for breakfast tomorrow and drinks tonight.
Came back around 5:00pm. Check-in was a snap. Again the lady who checked us in was very helpful. In fact, she ended up getting a luggage cart and helping us bring our stuff up to our room.
With a corner room we have a good amount of space. I'm typing on my laptop on the desk in an alcove facing east. Another window faces south and has a view of a very nice sunset right now. A closet has a safe with plenty of room for my full-size laptop and both of our tablets.
Oh, and the $10 per day resort fee is waived "since you're on an award stay." ;)
Looking forward to the next three nights here.

I'm taking a trip to Orlando for New Years (arriving Friday) and this morning managed to find the Radisson on I-Drive for 9k a night for 4 nights. Last week I had booked the first night there at 9k as the weekend was all booked. Went back and they opened up the rest of my dates.
I got the 50k after a one night stay in Buena Park, CA totalling roughly $120 all in. So now I'll get 4 nights PLUS 9k added to the remaining 17k in my account.
Very pleased with this whole thing as I originally was booked at Holiday Inn Resort on 535 (former Sunspree). Even with a discounted Disney fan rate it was coming out to over $430 PLUS resort fee. I'll take $free.99 plus resort fee any day.

Even if they charge resort fee (although it was mentioned here that they waived it) I'll end up staying 10 nights for $100. AWESOME!

Following up on my stay at the Radisson Orlando I-Drive 12/30 - 1/3...
This hotel was pretty decent. Not The Ritz but better than some other accommodations in the tourist area. They waived the resort fee at check-in without asking. Room was comfortable and wireless Internet had decent speed. Funny thing is that the room seemed larger than the standard rooms on Disney property. And the fact that it was free made it all the better.
Very convenient if doing Disney and the Universal area attractions as its halfway between both (without being in the middle of the I-Drive traffic that plagues the area between Kirkman and Sand Lake)

I just finished a stay at this hotel and I was very pleased. The room was large and comfortable, the location was good and they waived the resort fee. However I found the internet unreliable except late at night (when everyone else was asleep). Room service was fine, but I skipped the free (with a voucher) continental breakfast after my first morning.
Overall I would say this hotel is better than some of the tier 3 and 4 Radissons I've stayed in recently (on low cash rates). It's almost like Club Carlson just randomly assigned tiers to their hotels.
BillyBaloney
Jan 11, 12, 4:14 am
It's because it is Orlando -- the competition among hotels in this area is very fierce, therefore you may wind up with a better room and rate than would normally be had elsewhere. I've never seen this Rad, but I'm sure that it is fine and especially from all of the positive reviews here.
The competition for this area (International Drive) would be the Kissimmee hotels, which are a little ways off. The lure would be the slightly cheaper rates, but the hotels are less quality (in general).

I stayed here two days ago-got an upgraded room without asking and resort fee was waived. (didn't get a breakfast voucher though) Not bad for a free stay or even a 9000 point stay (if there wasn't a promo going on) Internet was pretty fast (you need to change access point/SSID to get a better reception depending on where your room is)

Wow, even though they said the points would be refunded in mid February I just got credited for my first two stays as well. Just in case anyone is tracking the sweeps, my third stay, Saturday 1/14/2012 has not gotten the refund yet.
I remain very pleased with Club Carlson. Almost as pleased as I am with AA, I hope Carlson isn't about to go bankrupt...
Same here. My two stays (last week of December and first week of January) got the rebates posted. But my third one (which was only 3 or 4 days after my second one) didn't get the rebate yet.

My stays on Dec 31 and Jan 2 posted on Jan 16.
I am impressed with Club Carlson's efficiency.
Especially, Hyatt and IHG (Priority Club) have much to learn from Club Carlson.
Well done Club Carlson!

They're not always that efficient. Still waiting to get my 9,000 points back for an award stay at the Park Inn Houston TX from Dec 30-31. It shows up on my account as "Park Inn - Houston , TX US Ineligible Rate Marketing Code 0 points" Emailed Club Carlson, they emailed back to say that it could take 6-8 weeks after the stay for the bonus points to post.

Yeah I am still waiting for the points all
the way from a Dec 13th stay ! So it is kinda odd
how some people it posts in less than a week and others
are still waiting? Pretty weird. I'm not like mad
about it, it did say 6-8 weeks but its just weird.
As long as they make good on it I'm happy.

My experience with CC has always been that the points posted ahead of time. Not saying that they can't screw up in a while. I suggest to call rather than email, they will fix the problem.

My wife and I just arrived for our third stay at the Radisson-International Drive in Orlando for this promotion. After this weekend, we will have stayed here a total of 8 nights -- 4 nights under each name, alternating days between our accounts -- and it will not have cost a cent or a point. This has been a very enjoyable promotion. Combine this one with the Pay for One Night, Get 50,000 Bonus Points promotion and it's been one heck of a winter! Before Thanksgiving, Carlson was not even on our radar. Now we've stayed a total of 10 nights at a couple of different properties, and after all our points are refunded, we will each have over 54,000 points! At a total cost of less than $150. Good on ya, Carlson! ;)

Would anyone care to provide thoughtful comments on whether a award stay booked with check-in on January 31 and check-out on February 1 / 12 will qualify for this promotion.
Make take on it would be NO, as the T and C's state "and COMPLETE an Elegible Award Stay between December 1, 2011 and January 31, 2012".
But I would appreciate a second opinion.
Thanks very much.

I called CC today with this very question and NO is the answer. You must check out on Jan. 31 to earn the 9000 points back.

Since this promo is basically over and no longer open for exploitation, I'd like to point out that reservations in other people's names were fully reimbursable to the account that made them. This means that each CC account basically had 5 fully transferable free nights at a tier one property.
CC has been very generous with its promos, so I only booked the 5 total award nights I and my immediate family needed despite each of us having an eligible account.
I am now wondering if I should have booked two rooms on one of my solo stays and asked for adjoining rooms... I think that would have been too much...

I haven't gotten any points put back either.
If anyone's considering Park Inn DFW - the free suite upgrade was nice, but the elevator "DING" sound could be heard all night and that resulted in less than a good night's sleep. The elevators are in the middle of the hotel so I don't think another room would've helped.

Carlson built up a ton of goodwill with their 50K promotion and prompt processing of SOME of these rebates. But I fear they are about to lose a chunk of it.....

I don't have a dog in this one, but here's two cents: Club Carlson must not staff up to handle the business that some of their great promotions attract, and they get overwhelmed. Happened with a lot of people who came in through the TGIF 4,500 CC point promotion, too. But they ultimately processed the wave. So far, all I've seen is that they're trying, a lot harder than any other hotel loyalty program. So they've got me on their side, but I realize that it's easy for me to say.

My 9000 points posted this afternoon, as well. I stayed on the last night of the promo, so I am guessing they did a sweep of all the 9000 points redemptions that were left over.

I think it has something to do with the T&C of the promo stating that all rebate points will post by Feb 15, 2012. ;) Seems like Carlson have done exactly what they promised to do. Some folks here got their panties in a bunch unjustifiably.
Yes, all our rebate points for our 8 free night have posted.

Mine came back, too- for a Country Inn day room at PDX.
So, let's see:
One paid night at LAX Radisson for $100ish in December, nets 50K points + points from stay
One redemption at PDX Country Inn (day room because of long wait during Pac NW Ice Storms in January), costs 15K points, nets 9K back
Two paid nights at DCA Radisson for $59 each on 25% off promo, getting triple points from stay
At the end of this I'll STILL have ~50 points, having already spent a "free night", net outlay around $220.
Not bad.

I sure hope they re do a similar proomo soon, All my stays seem to fall in the cracks of the promos dates :) even the triple points promos is wasted since the stay ends after the promo, I guess I could just check out early and switch to a different hotel brand :D
