I have an overnight planned for some tapas and sherry related fun in late December. Then the thought struck - how much of Madrid will be open? From experience in London I know most of the interesting eating and drinking places will be very shut...do tell me this isn't the case in Madrid, and specfially around Ibiza metro station.

In 2001 I spent Christmas in Torrevieja and New Year in Lisbon, we were driving so had 3 nights in Madrid on the way past and everything was very much business as usual.

I was in Madrid from 29th Dec - 1st Jan some 3 or 4 years ago, and didn't notice any big difference from a non-holiday period, frankly.

You might find it's actually busier. Christmas is not the main holiday, so people are more business as usual. The big day is the 6th January.

I was there two years ago. Everything's open (including museums).
