Welome to NZ Russ! Mini-DO's are held in AKL from time to time, especially as it's the main port of entry for the majority of overseas visitors. Also, I would guess more FTer's live in the AKL region than elsewhere in NZ.
Are you able to make it to the BHE DO next month? It's a nice part of the country and to save a few $$ you could either fly to WLG and catch the ferry to Picton or even train to WLG then ferry.
Of course, if you make it back to CHC, feel free to contact me. It would be great to see you again.

hey chchkiwi, i'll do my bestest to make it to the BHE do with a truckie friend who offered to give me a lift... just not sure of his schedule.
will check out the consolidated DO list for other events also... and try to make my way down to Chch again... today's my first full day in AKL :)

heh, a lot of those events are too high roller for me... I'm more of a $5 kebab shop - poor man's budget type at the moment.
