I tried a forum search on "FLL hotel" and 0 matches came up so I am hoping someone can help me here. Can someone recommend a FLL airport hotel? I am flying in the night before a cruise in March and want to make a reservation now. I want to be near the airport because that is where the HAL rep will be. Thank you!

This thread talks about the Hiltons in the area

I would not stay at the airport. When we fly in a day early, we stay on the beach, take our time on departure day, enjoy a few hours and then just grab a cab or shuttle to the ship.
There's no need to meet the HAL rep at the airport, you can just head to the ship the next afternoon.

Thanks for the link! You really can go right to the ship? I always thought you had to meet at the airport. I have never visited FLL before. My thought was to arrive the evening before. Now maybe I should arrive earlier? Your thoughts?

No, you can go right to the pier whenever you want before their deadline for check in, they have a huge check in area. You do most of it online, so it's a quick process that takes just a few minutes once you get to the counter. If you meet the rep at the airport all they do is take you to the pier in a bus and point to the same door you would go to if a cab dropped you off. Because you pay them per person, and only pay one fee for the cab, the cab may even cost less.
I like to relax before a cruise, mainly because the last time we did the same day arrival there were delays and they ended up holding the ship for a group of us on the plane. We arrived at the dock 90 minutes after the ship was to have departed. Since then, I've been a firm believer in getting in a day early, getting dinner someplace, relaxing, and taking my time the next day to get to the ship.

Try Red Roof Inn near FLL airport.

What does "specs" mean? I know what "Priceline" is but what does "pricelining" something mean? Sorry, I don't understand the jargon you are using :) !

to me it means using priceline to get the hotel....
also, the only reasons to go back to the airport would be if you bought the transfer [which i cant imagine] or the airport is much closer to the port & you could save on on the taxi by using the hotel shuttle...

try parksleepfly.com which has a cruise area and will tell you which hotels have transportation to the pier. BTW, we always board around noon even though it says 2 or so - we have only had a problem in Miami.

I just looked at my package and yes, transfers are included.

It's always best to arrive a day before in case of inclement weather or other natural delays. You could stay at the Airport Hilton and then return to the airport the next day for the shuttle. I assume the HAL reps are in the baggage area which is easy to access.

Thanks for all of your help. I decided to go with JanePond's suggestion of arriving a day earlier and staying at the Hilton Airport (there seem to be several so I took N830MH's suggestion of staying at the one of Griffin Road). I suddenly remembered that I had enough Hilton Honor Points to get one night for "free" so I cashed those in. Also decided to head back to the airport to meet the HAL rep; the Hilton has a free shuttle to the airport but you have to pay to go to Port Everglades.

Sounds like a great plan! That's the HH where I often stay before a cruise. Since I know I will be pampered on the ship, I don't worry about the pre-cruise hotel. Room service and in-room movies make my day. Great use of your points.
Are you set for disembarkment? If you purchased transfers, you should be fine. It's very close from the port to the airport. I know, horrid of me to bring up the cruise ending before it has started!

Yes, I'm all set for disembarkment. I did purchase r/t transfers so I will go right from the ship to the FLL airport. Thanks again for your help!

Whatever you do, avoid the Crowne Plaza in the area.
Close to nothing - mediocre restaurant, and nothing in the hotel worked properly.

For future reference, I like the Hyatt Pier 66. While it isn't near the airport, it is just a short ride to the piers. It also has lovely gardens and pools and the spa is first rate.
