Hilton HHonors - Hilton Amex: Spend $600 11/28-12/31 and get double HHonors pts on purchases in Jan 03

Just got this offer on a postcard in the mail. Not sure if this is targeted (but I never get any targeted stuff).

"You normally earn 3 HHonors bonus points for each eligible dollar charged, and 5 HHonors bonus points for each eligible dollar charged at Hilton HHonors hotels. However, if you meet the spending requirements between November 28 and December 31, 2002, we will post double HHonors bonus points to your HHonors account for each eligible dollar charged btw January 1 and January 31, 2003. Points will be posted 8-12 weeks after January 31, 2003. Ineligible charges include cash advances, Express Cash transactions, balance transfers, and convenience checks."

So, if given the choice of using your Starwood Amex or your Hilton Amex, which would you rather have?

6 HHonors points or 1 Starwood point http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

This sounds like it is targeted since there are varying spending amounts. Were you all targeted for the Aug/Sep/Oct double points? Spending amounts varied with that, too, apparentlhy based on getting you to up your spending.

In that promo it was also reported (too late to be helpful), that you could call and register if not targeted. It helped to know the codes, which weren't labeled as codes, but appeared just above the address.

So if any of you are willing to share codes, could you post them or e-mail them to me?

More info on that promo and the codes:

Why do I always get hit with the highest spending requirement??? Last time, my minimum spending to qualify was $2000. This time, my threshold is $1600.

Not that I can't bump up my spending with saving bonds, but why me?

Who do you call to signup for this promo? Hilton or AmEx? What's the promo code? Thanks.

To the folks that were targetted, did you need to call Hilton and ask them to enter the promo code? Or were you automatically registered?
If you did need to call, could you post the code on your postcard?

kathiel, what amount did you tell them was on the postcard you 'got'?

Aside from a person's credit limit, does Amex have a monthly limit for points earned?

$250 here, which i used as an "incentive" to finally buy some AA e-upgrades before The Big Honking Price Increase.

the beauty of this is Hilton property charges. 10 points from Amex, 10 points plus my Iron Pyrite bonus from HHonors=22.5 points per dollar spent at Hilton. that makes me happy!

If you can buy 25,000 in bonds, you'd have enough for the GLONP right there.

I guess the reason why AmEx assigns a different spending amount to different card member is trying to get us to spend more.

A lot of factors are coming into play like your credit history, income, spending pattern, etc...

I must be guilty for using AmEx too much in the past to get "penalized" for such a high qualifying amount.

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif (Hey, FFSaver must be outspending me on AmEx...)

I also got the $250 threshold, but I already tossed the card out, so I don't know if there was a code or not.

I called Amex a couple nites ago and told them I already tossed the card and wanted to be registered. After some checking around the CSR told me there was no code and that the spending amount was indicated on the card and since the promo was done thru their marketing division, she couldn't tell me my spending target.

I never got a postcard at all, anyone still getting theirs? I usually charge $3000 a month on the card, does that disqualify me?

It could. They've already got you and have no real incentive to make you spend more, unless by their complex formulas and your credit report they can determine how much you could potentially charge.

Since we do have yet another Austin Powers movie coming out: could somebody throw us a bone here?

There must be some type of codes on these cards the lucky ones are getting. On the Aug/Sep/Oct cards, the codes turned out to be NOT labeled as such. They looked more like mailing codes just above your name on the mailing label. Sample codes for THAT promo were B218: 0015, and were posted here (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum57/HTML/005733.html) with some success reported at registering.

It would be really nice if somebody could look closely at their card and post whatever code like numbers and letters appear on the card. Then we can at least give this a shot, and report our results.

I too did not receive the post card....GRRRRR
Called Am Ex and was told it was a marketing tool. I explained that I have been a Am EX since'78 and had never received anything but my monthly statement and my monthly bill was always in excess of $2,000. It got me no where. I was told to "contact Marketing, however, they are closed and try Monday"!

Above my name is the code B706:004 (not lithographed) but in the printed address

Lithographed at the bottom left of the card are the codes

HST1200-11/02

HH-1

My spending requirement is $1200

I normally use the card for a few hundred a month.

Sucks for me too. I have the same spending requirement.

But in my case, I almost never use the Hilton Amex any more. Only for HHonors stays, nothing else (and I haven't stayed at HHonors hotels that much this year). I changed to this usage after I got cheated out of the 5 points/dollar on a hotel charge many months ago, and was never able to get HHonors or Amex to correct the error (to the tune of nearly 4,000 missing points). So I figure if I use it ONLY for HHonors hotels, it will be more obvious when the points are calculated wrong.

Anyway, I sorta wish my spending requirement were only $250, since I have an HHonors stay booked this month that will cost me just over that amount! THEN maybe I'd make an exception to my rule and use the card for non-hotel purchases in January!

This is the code. It appears that B706 is the general promo, and the numbers afterward have to do with the spending tier.

I'm hoping the one the CSR gave to me B706-001, is for the lowest tier. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Now, to be clear, I'm not really sure that I am registered. We'll have to wait and see.

I got the same numbers as you. This sucks. I met the $2000 spending limits, because there were some things I needed to get but had put off buying. However, it doesn't look like I'll meet the $1600, and I'm not gonna buy extra stuff just to get there.

You were able to call AMEX and have them apply the promo code "B706-001' to your account?

I satisfy my requirement buying bonds. Next month, I'll buy bonds up to my credit line for the promotion. With the devaluation, unfortunately, I have to game the system to the max to keep pace with the rule changes. How sad???
