Avis - No miles included PHL to Norfolk - how to do it?

I know I'm WAY early, but just trying to work out logistics for a trip next October.. Want to fly into Philadelphia, then drive to Gettysburg, Williamsburg and then return car to Norfolk. We always use Avis but no matter what code I put it, there are no miles included - and miles are $0.38 each... Hertz gives mileage, but total cost through AAA was $737 for a week without insurance.. I can do Dollar through Orbitz for $546 including insurance and unlimited miles... but would rather use Avis if at all possible... Any thoughts ? Will it get cheaper when we get closer to actual booking time? Or any code suggestions for either Avis or Hertz? Or do I just go with Dollar? Or do we have to rethink logistics of this trip? Thanks!

I think I see the problem: Don't put in codes. With no code at all, the regular retail rate with Avis includes unlimited miles. The total for PHL pickup is $798/wk for an economy car.

You might be better off with Dollar. If you choose that, book directly through Dollar's website, and make sure to sign up for their rewards program to avoid the hard sell on insurance.

I tried that too - I thought $800 for a week was a little high (actually a LOT high!) We prefer Avis since he is a preferred member, but for $250 I guess we will have to use Dollar.. I will wait till later next year when we are actually booking this trip and hope the rates have come down.... Thanks!
