Wife interested in shopping, at stores like Macy's, Costco, Best Buy, GNC, etc., before returning to Brazil on a flight out of CLT in March. Last time we took the same basic flight we left from GSP (we'll be spending time in the Asheville/Hendersonville area), and connected through CLT. That was okay, and there was lots of shopping in Greenville, but somehow feel hesitant about taking, in the winter, the turboprops US Airways uses for GSP-CLT. Also the US Airways agent at GSP seemed quite mystified by the luggage regs for flights to/from Brazil (Envoy Class) and at one point we were going to have our bags tagged just to GIG (not to our ultimate destiantion, FOR). Anyway, price seems as good leaving from CLT, and I assume that Charlotte, being bigger than Greenville, would have even more shopping opportunities, but have never driven in Charlotte (just around it one time).

For Costco, the store on Tyvola Rd is pretty convenient to the airport.

If you’re serious about shopping, Charlotte’s the place. With no intention of offending anyone around Greenville, Charlotte has tremendous shopping opportunities, only dreamed about in Greenville. Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Tiffany & Co., Montblanc, Hermes, Coach, Louis Vuitton, Rangoni Firenze, all have shops under one roof -- South Park Mall. They’re in addition to the usual mall rats: Victoria’s Secret, Gap, Benetton, Dillards, Macy’s (GO TO BELK’S, it’s much better), etc., etc., etc.

The mall is about 25-30 minutes away from the airport, but easy enough to find. There’s a Marriott, Renaissance, and Doubletree within walking distance, and a Hampton Inn a minute away. Spend the night!

Found it. We'd likely hit it on the way back from Asheville. Northlake Mall looks a bit closer to our route. rd. Is South Park a nicer mall? Looks like the only (?) Costco in Charlotte is closest to the Southpark Mall.

I rate South Park at 5 Stars; Northlake at 3.5 Stars. Plus, there's much more in the neighborhood of South Park.
