I will be in the Livermore, CA area for 3 days in early December. There are 3 Hilton properties there, a Garden Inn, a Hampton, and the Doubletree. On the Hilton web site, the GI and H showed rates starting at around $100, the DT had an Internet Best Rate at $58.50, which seems incredibly cheap for that area. The home page for the hotel says "newly renovated". Anyone know if this place is a real dive, or are they just moving excess capacity? How about the upgrade and breakfast situation for Golds, and would this rate affect that? Is the fitness center anything special or just the treadmill and bike room thing? Any comments on the GI or Hampton in Livermore?

TIA

This is a recently converted Holiday Inn. It may still be a work in progress. They've been renovating this place for the past year.
I would call the hotel prior to booking if you're interested in collecting points. Last time I checked they still were not a DT, though the sign had been hanging for a few months.

Thanks, I called and they said they are a DoubleTree now and participate fully in the HHonors program. I also noticed that they are a DoubleTree "Club". Any idea how this differs from a DoubleTree Hotel?

Stayed at the Livermore HGI a couple months ago -- it is a newer property and standard set up for a HGI. Rooms seemed slightly larger.

However, you could hear noises from the hallway way too easily, and I complained in the quick, written survey that was in the room (but not sure what they can do about that!).

Got a coupon for "continental breakfast" which is only the cold stuff! I hate that! They make you shell out a few more bucks for cooked to order.

They had a pool area, but I did not use it. Smelled like too much chlorine.

Overall, I would stay there again so wasn't too bad of an experience.

Just returned from my stay, since this is a newly opened (as a Doubletree) property, thought I would do a short review.

From what I could tell, the DT Clubs are a step down the brand ladder from the standard DTs. This hotel is 4 floors, inside corridor.
They just opened around Thanksgiving as a Doubletree after extensive renovation. It is mostly complete, except for the first floor room wing, which was still under construction. Disappointly for me, the fitness room is in that section and was not open yet. Outdoor pool looked open, but it was too cold to check it out.

When I drove in on Sunday eve, there were only 3 cars in the parking lot. Was told they were only expecting 8 guests that night.
Hotel has an attractive, nice size lobby, with two conference rooms and a biz center. The biz center has 4 desks, but only one computer so far. No lobby store.

On checkin, got cookies, and as Gold, got cont bfast coupons for each day. Two water bottles in the room. Room was nice, King bed, loveseat sized sleeper sofa, workdesk with power and phone jacks in lamp base and a rolling, adjustable chair. No high speed internet access available. Furn, carpet, drapes, wallcoverings, a/c unit, faucets, vanity, sink were all new. Tub and avacodo green shower tile weren't. The elevator looked pretty worn also.

The restaurant is supposed to be open for bfast, lunch, dinner, but it (and bar) were closed by 6 both eves I was there. Breakfast is from a menu, no buffet. I was told the coupon was only good for "The Continental", juice or coffee, and a croisant or danish, and had no value towards any other menu choice. Had a so-so omelette and coffee for $10.00, didn't eat there again.

Overall, a very good deal at $58.50, when the going rate for the area is over $100. When prices are closer, I would go with the HGI a few miles away.

I stopped in at the HGI on my way out of town to check it out. It is new new, not remodeled new, indoor pool, fitness room has the usual plus a weight machine, high speed internet access is no charge, in room fridge and microwave, and the 24 hour lobby store. At similar prices, the DT vs. HGI decision would be a no brainer in favor of HGI. There is also a Hampton across from the HGI, that too looked new.
