Hi,

I have not seen any comments on the board on this hotel. I have booked the 5th Dec for $89 per night when I'm flying over from the UK for the weekend. It is only half a block from the Orange metroline so it seems handy enough for going into DC ( and I do like the HGI's).
Does anyboby have any comments on this hotel please?

Thanks for any advice.

Regards
TBS

Oops... wrong hotel... was commenting on the Ballston Hilston. Haven't even noticed this place even though I am in that area frequently.

There is a restaurant called Cafe Asia not too far away on Wilson Blvd, which is good for a quick bite. Also, Summers Restaurant -- mediocre food but handy if you want to see Falkirk in action.

No comments on that hotel, but you've picked a nice area from which to get into DC or elsewhere in Northern VA.

Local food/drink:
- Clarendon Grill
- Whitlow's on Wilson
- Four Courts Irish Pub
- Mezza Luna (I think that's what it's called...)
- Sage Brush Grill (home of the Blazing Red Fish Tacos)

I thought that Ballston Hilton was kind of a hole, but that's another topic. I would be willing to bet that the HGI will turn out very nice.

and further down on Wilson Blvd is "Cafe Asia" a pan-Asian restaurant... fantastic food, nice ambiance and great prices (incl. $1 sushi during happy hour)...

I could do a lot of damage at a sushi bar for $1 apiece... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Some of my colleagues and I were at one point, regulars at Cafe Asia every Friday evening. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Hi I´ve got a rip comming on and I´ve booked the HGI Arlington as my basis for a Washintong DC trip of three days.

Was this a smart move or should I change. rate is 109 per night which is quite OK I think

The rate is great for the area. The area around the hotel is yuppie/cool. The hotel is about two blocks from the Orange/Blue metro line for relatively easy access to DC proper and the main touristy stuff.

The property itself is very average. Which is not a bad thing--- you will have a very predictable, middle-of-the-road Garden Inn experience. The rooms are on the large side for DC hotels (unless you move up to the $300/night range). As I recall, there is a small bar in hotel but I could be wrong on that. I think you are doing quite well at $89-109/night. It is a very safe neighborhood and the hotel is quite well kept, shiny and bright. Just not awesome enough to be outstanding.

I liked the property. The hotel is not too far from the metry and there are some decent restaurants within a few blocks. I think that rate is ok for that hotel and I think it is a good place to stay to avoid the higher DC rates.

Yes, there is a bar in the hotel.

I'll post another positive review for this property - although I live near the Arlington Hilton, my parents often stay at the HGI when they come to visit as there are frequently very good rates available on the weekends. As others have said, it is located about a 1-1.5 blocks away from the Metro, and there are a number of good places nearby to get breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Also, Clarendon is just up the street which has even more places to eat and a number of shops. It's also very easy to get to Georgetown - maybe a 30-35 minute walk, or you can catch the 38B bus, or take the Orange line to Foggy Bottom and catch the circulator. There's also a movie theater across the street in case you are looking for something to do in bad weather, etc. The hotel does have a bar where they often put out some type of hot snacks at night, and I think there is also a pool - but I may be wrong on that. Nothing outstanding about the place, but a solid choice in my opinion.

I'll agree with all the recent posts. I've gotten a few upgrades to larger rooms and suites at this hotel in the past (though I had to ask).

Also, one amazing thing about this hotel is that it has free underground parking. I would say it is the only Hilton within a 10 mile radius of central DC that has this feature!

Its really pushing the edge of the 10 mile radius but HGI Tyson's Corner has free underground and the Homewood Suites Falls Church, Hilton Tyson's Corner, and Hilton Springfield offer free surface lot parking.
