Hi,

I've recently stayed on the gold floors in Montreal and Calgary (quite impressed with the Calgary lounge: great breakfast and ipads for use while in the lounge)

What other properties have great Gold rooms and lounges?

The Middle East gold floors are spectacular. Open bar too!

I have had nothing but great experience staying on the Gold floor, only downside is the hefty premium plus that you canīt upgrade using room/suite upgrade certs, so unfortunately it doesnīt make much sense for me to book Fairmont Gold most of the time.

Anyway, here are a few great Gold experiences:

Lake Louse: Gold rooms and lounge located on the 6th (or 7th) floor, rooms hsve spectcular views of the lake; all rooms/suites are nicer/larger/more upscale than the non-Gold rooms in the same category in the building. Lounge overlooks parking lot, but is very nice (bit like a country club)

Pacific Rim Vancouver: located on the 21st floor IIRC: Lounge has outside patio with superb views of Stanley Park and Coal Harbour, service was excellent, food was high quality but necessarily to my taste (sea food etc.)

Fairmont Singapore: located on one of the top floors, big bonus is that all guests staying in a suite (incl. upgrades) get access. Breakfast and evening buffet was the most extensive Iīve experienced (more like a full meal vs. canapes), plus comp. wine and champagne at night
I wish more Fairmonts introduced a similar concept...

What was the point of that?

My question was whether people enjoyed Gold. It's not discussed much on here

That being said, I did like the your link

Thanks

Breakfast at the Lake Louise Gold Floor Lounge is quite good and reasonably extensive. I think that the offerings are on a 3-day rotation. Gold Floor makes some sense in Lake Louise, given that there's not much to the town itself and breakfast options can be pricey (in the hotel). I very much enjoyed the experience. Good staff, reasonably spacious lounge (although I had expected it to have a view of the lake, but I can see why management wouldn't want to take away room revenue to do so), relaxing environment.

Breakfast at the Vancouver Waterfront is so-so. It always seems to consist of assorted breads, not-entirely-crisp bacon, oatmeal (seldom touched), some egg product, various cereals, yogurts, and assorted fruits. The lounge is a little small and has access to an outside balcony. Evening snacks usually consist of at least one item that is something seafood based, but nothing special. I'm not personally sure that gold at this property is really "worth it," but if the price differential isn't too great, I guess it is okay.

Breakfast at the Vancouver Airport was similar to the Waterfront, but with the addition of smoothies and yogurts-in-a-glass that were more artistic than edible. Small lounge that overlooks the runways and international terminal. Evening snacks were very seafood and asian based, with strange (to me) bean salads. Things looked better than they tasted. Curiously, breakfast did not start until 7:30 (I think...it was 30 minutes later than when the Waterfront starts, which I believe is at 7:00), which seems awfully late to me for an airport property. Can't say that it is "worth it" at this property, although the rooms themselves were quite nice (but I have no idea if the rooms on the Gold Floor are any better than rooms on the other floors).

I recently stayed in Banff - the gold floor is really great - ipads in the lounge, lovely views, cookies in the room etc. And they offer a wake up call with juice and coffee to your room.

A few years ago they had the most amazing espresso machine but it is gone now, just regular coffee.
