Just spoke to the Diamond Desk to confirm that my "real" stays plus my double credits from Jan-Mar would requalify me for Diamond. At first the guy had no clue how the promo worked and then he said he spoke to the coordinator. He told me that they will review those accounts with the double stay credits and then decide if they are worthy to retain Diamond status. It wasn't an automatic thing. He said my 24 stays plus my 5 doubles would probably be enough. If you've got 14 double stay credits and haven't stayed since, you might want to give them a call and get another opinion.

What "another opinion"? Log into your HH account, select stays in the month you were promised to have stays count double (just January for me, January through March for others) and see if your stays have an asterisk next to them saying "You have received double stay credit toward your 2003 HHonors VIP status for this stay". Clear and simple!

It's a targeted promo from last Fall.

Clear to me too, however the interpretation I got on the phone was different. What's the point of the promo if it's not going to help you renew with less stays.

So the agent had no clue, wouldn't be the first time (or the last)... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

FlyByMike, you and I are on the same page today. I called the Diamond Desk earlier to confirm that I would receive double stay credit and was told "No." What frosts me is that I called in December when the post first came up and got the response that all Diamonds will be eligible. I even called in April and was told that my 8 stays during the firt quarter would count as double stays toward requalification.

Today, they said "nope." As it stands, I'll be three stays short, after being a Diamond for several years. I'm looking forward to a response to my email from flyertalk@hilton.com.

InHoc -- I fully understand your disappointment. I wish Hilton did much better job of training their CSRs when it comes to understanding the rules of the promotions (especially such major ones). Or at least teach them not to give information that they are not sure about. Hilton folks, we know you're reading this - please, PLEASE do something about it!

But this "double stays" promo was indeed targeted, which has been confirmed by Kristy (flyertalk@hilton.com):

Finally heard back from Kristy... basically NO emails, NO double stay credit regardless of your status. I am pretty disappointed... &lt;IMG SRC="http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif"&gt;</font>

Here are some past threads on this promo:

After the rep figured things out, I wasn't told that I won't be receiving double stay credit...just that even if those double stays put me over 28 nights, that doesn't automatically equal Diamond requalification. I was definately part of the promo, because I have the *note about the stays online. FWIW, I never received the mass email indicating that my stays counted as double. I did however email Hilton and received a response back that all Gold & Diamond VIP members were automatically enrolled in the promo.

I hope this does not confuse the issue more than it is now, but I have been told by a source at the HHonors center which I consider to be very reliable that if you qualified as Gold/Diamond by normal stays or days in 2001 you should have received double stay credit for the first 3 months of 2002.
I did not get the targetted offer at the end of last year, but I did qualify as Gold for 2002 by stays. All my stays for the first 3 months of 2002 show the asterix indicating double stay credit.

What would the be the point of getting double stay credits if it does not go toward qualification.

As a point of interest anybody here which was Gold/Diamond last year, had their stays denoted on their statements as getting double credit and are now being told that
they will not qualify but would have done so if the credits were doubled???
Mike

Thanks for the empathy....I'll take all I can get.

I guess my issue is that HHonors has already established precedent on this matter through their actions. Although certain offers are initially targeted to a specific class or classes of customers, they have established a pattern of extending those offers to an additional class or classes (witness CNTU).

In terms of verification, it seems these matters are addressed on a case by case basis. Until this point, I believed that if two independent phone calls to the Diamond Desk confirmed that I was in the program (one before the promotional period and one after), that I was indeed enrolled. It now seems that I should have been more persistent to get something in writing or by email to confirm eligibility.....I just wish I had known this earlier in the year.

Eugene, I echo your concerns of consistency across HHonors reps, especially at the Diamond Desk. It seems that even within this thread there are different answers that we've collectively received to the "Who Qualifies and Who Doesn't" question.

I still have the e-mail sent to me and here is the critical excerpt from that:

"...you will receive double stay credit toward your 2003 HHonors VIP status for every HHonors stay you have between January 1 and March 31, 2002."

I think that's pretty clear.

Edited to add, I called HHonors and explained that I was interested in just how many stays I actually had toward status with this double credit versus how many the web site showed. I then asked the CSR if he knew what I was talking about. He said he did, put me on hold, and came back with the response I wanted which was the exact number of actual stays plus two extra not showing on the web site for the two "double" stays marked with asterisks.
