is there a penalty (points, money, etc) for changing the dates once you have already booked a GLON/ALON or other similar Hilton award? Thanks!

Nope, the certs don't have dates on them (other then the expiration). You can use them at any date within a year, at any property that accepts them, provided you have a reservation for such an award.

You can even return the certs for a full point credit. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

The property's standard cancellation policy still applies - e.g. if it's 48 hours, 4 PM day of arrival, etc.

Good point. With HH, reward certs and actual award reservation for a specific date are two separate things.

I had a GLON booked for Oct at an Embassy Suites, but was hospitalized - I cancelled the day before I was due to arrive by calling the 1-800 central res line. Mistake -they didn't pass the info on to the Hotel who charged me a one night cancellation fee. I called and explained I was sick. They said send some proof and they would refund. I am waiting for a credit to appear on my card. I called HHonors and they said hang on to the cert which is good for a year.

~ A little closer to ALON ~

Surely you got a cancellation code from the CSR That should be enough proof that you did cancel. If not I find it essential thet you
resquest one to avoid cases like this.

You are absolutely correct - I'm pretty sure they gave me one, but I was so zapped at the time, I called from my hospital bed, and was somewhat incoherent. When I noticed the card charge, I called central res to get the cancellation number but they had dumped the entire res from their system.
The accounts dept at the Hotel were very nice about it, saying that they had also tried to access the res from their end, and it had indeed been dumped too early. I know there is a 7 day cancellation penalty with ES, so I consider myself indebted to Hilton once again.
