Oceania (Australia, New Zealand & the South Pacific) - Baggage Connection PER-SYD-NRT-JFK

Hi

I will be travelling from Perth to New York via Sydney and Tokyo. The Perth to Sydney and Sydney to Tokyo legs are Qantas, and the Tokyo - NYC leg is on AA (All flights are on a single e-ticket through a Flight Centre booking)

I know my baggage will be automatically connected through Sydney, but I'm wondering if my baggage will automatically be connected in Tokyo. My connection in Tokyo is 12hrs, however I am not planning on leaving the airport. I'm hoping this means me (and my bags) don't have to go through immigration etc.

Can anyone advise if the bags will get connected all the way through to JFK, or will I need to collect and re-check in Tokyo.

Many thanks

Naj

AA is generally restricted to connections less than 24 hours from the initial flight, also NRT is severely short on storage space so most airlines have a 4 hour rule at NRT ... I would be surprised if you are able to through-check for this. You may need to buy a visa for Japan. Going landside is not so bad, Narita City is actually quite interesting and well worth spending half a day in (whereas NRT airport is pretty bleak for the most part, airside -- all the neat stuff is landside).
