Got a stay coming up using an Ambassador Weekend Certificate and one of the things I'm apparently guaranteed to receive is a 'Welcome Amenity'.

Anyone know what this is?

Think it depends on the hotel you're staying at

At IC Melbourne Rialto I received some snacks and a bottle of water IIRC

Usually 1-2 bottles of water and a fruit plate.
Sometimes a small plate of local desserts or candies.

Technically speaking it is a "gift" of some sort. Originally it was supposed to reflect something of the city but it varies. It can be an item, like the wine bottle carrier bag I just received at the IC Dusseldorf. Or it can be a bottle of wine, or box of chocolates, or something similar. It is NOT the fruit tray and bottled water which is a separate basic provision of AMBASSADORs and RAs.

It is a worthless gift that will clutter your drawers (if you take it with you, or if the hotel does not forget to give it ...) ;)

My welcome amenity in IC Warsaw this evening is 2 bottles of water, an apple, orange, and some berries!

In fact if you look at this site you'll see that they are listed as completely separate items.

What are the benefits of InterContinental Ambassador status?

...

▪ Fresh fruit and mineral water upon arrival
▪ VIP greeting and in-room welcome gift

My favorite welcome gift that I've gotten from a frequent hotel is the bottle of wine from The Willard. Usually though at most IC's it's chocolates or some cheese and crackers. I prefer the wine because I can take it home, enjoy it later and it's pretty good in my opinion.

Earlier this year IC Singapore was giving some nice prints of historical shophouses, recently it's been a money clip, which I don't use.

IC Wellington gave me a set of glass coasters, along with the usual water and fruit plate. IC Frankfurt gives a large bar of chocolate, wine, and the last time I was there a stainless steel cocktail shaker.
