AirTran Airways A+ Rewards - $75 to Cancel or Change an Award?!?!?

I booked a OW to CUN for this coming Saturday about a month ago.
I had a Credit expiring and losing it would have put me at 7.5.
Plans changed cant go for several reasons. When I booked I was under the impression the flight could be cancelled/changed at no charge since it was an award. The website is saying that it is $75 to cancel or change!

Is this new? Did I misread the threads here? or is it just a glitch and the computer thinks its a rev ticket?

I want to change or cancel the flight whatever is cheapest.

Please advise,

Stallion

A+ Elite members have always been permitted one courtesy change per award ticket. Perhaps this is another little bit of LUV brought to you by our new friends in Dallas.

I should probably add that I've always requested the change via phone. 1) Are you A+ Elite? 2) Have you tried calling the A+ Elite line?

No, I am not elite and have not called yet.

If you have the elite number please PM it to me and I can try that.
One option I saw was to switch my destination to PNS on the same day and still connecting in ATL if they would go for that.

I cant believe I screwed this up!

Giving you the Elite number isn't going to help if you're not an Elite member. The system will prompt you for your A+ Rewards number. If it doesn't match up to the Elite roster, you'll be dumped into the regular phone que.

Airtran Customer service is A-OK with me.
Rep told me I get one courtesy change which can either be for a different date or location. I am hitting the search engine now.

Thanks again!

Except that your new friends in Dallas allow unlimited changes of award tickets with no charges.

And no business class.

All depends on what you value, I guess.

And fewer nonstop flights. And higher fares.

And for Delta's fares to increase as well.

Sure am feeling the LUV here in ATL.

Well I was able to switch the flight without any fees.
I ended up booking a trip to PNS on the same day instead of CUN.

I would have much rather pushed back my flight to CUN, but with the DFW service stopping 11/21 and no news as to when Airtran awards could be used on Southwest, I am just glad I got something out of it.

Thanks for the help!

FWIW, I have always found the CSR's at this number to be very helpful:

1-888-327-5878

If you are dumped into the regular que, just ask to speak with an A+ CSR

Faced same issue yesterday and called the Elite phone# to confirm and was told $75 to change or cancel. I was tempted to just abandon the res and fly Delta, but that would have cost me $99 so figured why toss $25 away. I think it was different w/ the old Airtran. No matter. I won't be sticking around for LUV.
