just came across what seems to be an error fare at Hilton NY. Travel dates Jan 2-3 2012 brings up ALL rooms at 20 USD per night + tax.
Booked a room and received confirmation email.

Pick days beginning 01 January (dont seem to work in December.)
Valid for 1 night stays or multiple night stays.
I checked for 01 Jan - 24 Jan and it comes up as $20 a night (rooms) to $50 a night (suites)
Cheaper than renting an apartment in Manhattan :)

seems like it is just the nights of the 1-3, i booked two nights in a suite, Sunday night is $20/night, and Monday is $30 per night...if you try to book Tuesday evening, it jumps to $319 for that night (at least it did for me). And you can cancel up until 1 day prior...so no risk...book away!

Dear Mr. Tmpy,
We are pleased to learn that you chose to book a stay at the Hilton New York today. We have recently learned that between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. (EST) today there was a system error that affected the rate that was offered to you. The current rate for the dates that you booked with the Hilton New York today is $409 per night for a One bedroom Suite, plus tax. In light of the system error, and to apologize for any inconvenience you may experience, we wish to extend you a 50% discount on this current rate, making the rate for your reservation $195 per night plus tax.
We also wish to extend you either: (1) a 25% discount at our food and beverage outlets during your stay (for parties of up to 4 people); or (2) a 25% discount on our best available rate for one future room reservation during the period of January 1, 2012-March 31, 2012. Please e-mail me the discount option you would prefer [(1) or (2)], and we will make the necessary arrangements for you to take advantage of this offer.
We thank you for choosing to stay at the Hilton New York and we look forward to welcoming you upon your arrival in January.
Please feel free to reach out to me directly regarding any questions.
Thank you.

Why would you call in the middle of the night when all you are going to get is a CS agent who has no power.
Sometimes it is better to think a while before acting.
Of course they will say no; you need to be communicating by e-mail and with someone with authority.
You will probably have made it harder for everyone else.

You called on a mistake rate and then post it in FT?
The mistake was discovered and the rate pulled in about 30 minutes after it was posted on FT (and other placed). Everyone (including myself) have been getting the e-mails about the mistake.
Now it is the time for negotiating an acceptable resolution. There is no way to negotiate without actually communicating with Hilton.

Again;
Why would you call in the middle of the night when all you are going to get is a CSA who has no power.
Further
Communicate by e-mail so you have a record make the e-mail clear, concise and non-threatenning.
DO NOT CALL as the CSA's can only say no and NOTHING of magnitude is ever resolved at the CSA level.
As we have seen in previous mistake rate threads there can be different outcomes for different people even on the same mistake.
Again now is the time to negotiate a resolution with as good an outcome as you can manage.
Now is the time for everyone to act slowly and intelligently. Both of these are hard for people to do today as everyone wants instant resolution and have lost the art of negotiating (IE BLUE state politicians and RED state politicians)

Part of the terms of the reservation is:
"We reserve the right to cancel or modify reservations where it appears that a customer has engaged in fraudulent or inappropriate activity or under other circumstances where it appears that the reservations contain or resulted from a mistake or error."
I don't like it either, but they can do that. The smart thing to do? The customer friendly thing to do? No, but you have agreed to it when you booked.

This is actually not true. I made a very reasonable counter proposal - was polite and in return got more than what I had even asked for. NEW YORK -- It's a happy new year for some guests at the new W Hotel in Times Square.
The upscale hotel opened Dec. 27 with a bang, when hotel personnel inadvertently loaded an incorrect room rate into the hotel's computer system. People who visited Starwood Hotel & Resorts Worldwide's Web site from Dec. 27 through Jan. 2 were able to book rooms at the W for $25 a night instead of $259.
Word of the rock-bottom rate was posted on several message boards in cyberspace, and by Tuesday, at least 172 people had booked a total of 342 room nights.
When they first learned of the mistake, hotel personnel at the W called several people to inform them of the error and encourage them to pay the $259 rate. But officials at the parent company eventually decided to honor the discounted price.
"It was our mistake, so we'll honor it" says Starwood spokeswoman Nadeen Ayala. "A bunch of people are now going to stay in a brand new W hotel for $25. They'll have a great time."
This isn't the first time technologically savvy travelers have netted a good deal on the Net. Last year, Hilton Hotels Corp. had a similar data-entry error that resulted in $0 rates at several hotels in the U.S. and in Mexico City. Hilton also eventually agreed to honor the free room nights. In February 2001, United Airlines mistakenly entered a series of fare codes that resulted in sales of round-trip tickets to Europe for less than $30.
Steve Leibowitz, a computer trainer from Brewster, Mass., booked two nights for the end of March at the Times Square W hotel. "It's a present for my wife," he says. "Her birthday is April Fool's Day."

I have yet to hear from Anges as well. I have sent her two emails thus far. Funny how quickly they are to email us when they noticed the fare error, but then complete silence.
I personally still think my $109 rate is extremely fare for a NYC hotel, however, it would be nice for them to get back to me.

While this is not my fight I would as a next step contact the GM of the hotel
MARK LAUER - HOTEL GENERAL MANAGER either by fax or telephone.
My conversation (fax to him) with him would be that I had contacted (fill in name) on (date)and had not been granted the courtesy of a reply. I am calling the GM to let him know I had not received a reply and was hoping he could get me a reply. Curiosity being what it is; the GM's secretary (you probably won't get through to him personally) will ask you what the problem is. This is your opportunity to give her the lowdown. Write down what you propose to say and keep it short and business like. Leave contact information and ask how long you should wait before calling back to follow up.
If you fax lay out the problem and the solution clearly and be reasonable. Give multiple contact info.
I guess if it was me my fax would offer to pay $99.00 a day for the 2 days. But your call is your call. If they countered back at $129.00 I would ask if they would throw in breakfast for that price.
If you are one of those people that goes off the deep end and gets to threatening quickly by all means fax.
If you do not know if your are then you are.

That is totally incorrect. I was one who was in on that deal for 12 rooms for 5 nights over Memorial Day weekend 2002 (and a few other weekends prior). Starwood called us trying to get us to take a higher rate. We held out, contacted the press and when it got into the Wall Street Journal that is only when they relented.
Thanks to such greedy guys as you, they are less and less likely to honor mistake rates @:-)

Thanks to such greedy guys as you, they are less and less likely to honor mistake rates @:-)That was 10 years ago, almost. But I'd do it all over again today. I was also the OP of the 5* Windsor Court Hotel New Orleans $35 club floor suite (or lower, if you pre-paid) over the Labor Day period last year. My friends and I booked 8 rooms on that one. I also met a number of those who took advantage of the deal I shared here on FT in the club floor lounge.
The number of rooms booked by one person has nothing to do with their honoring it or not. My friends and I have occupied every room I've ever booked and was honored.

We have been negotiating over e-mail since the reservation was changed. Managed to get other dates (which I've planned to be in NYC anyway), for a substantial discount over the current rate, plus the dining credit (which I am not likely to use). All in all, not a bad result.

Could someone explain the 25000 points is this a bonus for accepting their price? Or did you get a different price? You do not have to be specific about the price just if higher or lower than the original price offered in their e-mail.
This will add to the information base for next time.

I received an email reply from Agnes today. She originally offered a rate of $139 or 50% off the current rate for a Executive King room, plus 25% off their best rate for a future stay through March 2012.
I countered with a request for them to honor the rate I was quoted even though it was in error and asked for 1000 HH points for my trouble (I know that was really pushing it but what the heck).
Today she offered me a rate of $89 and free parking (normally $51/day). I'm going to mull it over for a day before I reply.
Anyone else offered something similar?

Fantastic rate, especially if you are going to be parking (and the parking doesn't really cost the hotel much, so it was easy to give it away). It took Hilton just a little longer than it should have to settle this (although I'm sure there's a lot going on behind the scenes that we don't know about), but in the end (or what appears to be the end), I think they come out smelling much better than most companies/hotels do when it comes to handling mistakes.

I am positively surprised about Hilton's reaction and think they handled it extremely customer-friendly. Despite their T&Cs explicitely stating error fares wouldn't be honored, they made signficant effort to ensure positive relations with their customers.
I had countered Agnes' initial offer for my King Executive room and 2 days ago she agreed to honor the error rate of 20 USD for the first night. The other night comes in at half of the rack rate (129 USD + tax). In total 178 USD for 2 nights for 2 in NY in an Exec Room.
Thanks Hilton!

I was able to negotiate a rate at a different hotel at 40% off with Agnes. I'm also working on either points or a status match. My reservation has been completely canceled. I think Agnes and Hilton have done a pretty good job of working with everybody, based on what I'm seeing here.

Not quite. I canceled my reservation after getting the email offer from Agnes (a day or two after the mistake rate). I did NOT negotiate with anyone and do not expect to get any 25k point bonus.
Unless you were involved in one-on-one negotiation with Hilton, I would not expect 25k points.

This isn't related to Hilton or hyatt but I was wondering if there was a site just dedicated to mistake fares or errors.
I was reading one a while back I think it was in another language but it was all just people out there finding errors.
Does anyone know of these sites ?

Just emailed Agnes and politely asked when I should expect to see the HHonors points in my account (we spoke on 11/22). She responded almost immediately and said she will have Honors email me whe the points are in my acount, they should be in by this week and that it is a long process on their end. She also apologized for the delay. I have to say that she is handling it very well - so I hope everyone is being nice to her, as I'm sure this isn't fun for her to deal with!

It has been my experience (learned the hard way) that those who make a deal quickly are stuck with the deal they made, even though the terms may later get better.
This is one of the reasons I advised everyone to stop and proceed with caution. This has happened MANY times before where the later ones to act (politely) get better deals.
We may be seeing this at work here.
But if you already made a deal I do not think you stand a chance of bettering it but you still got a deal so take solace in that

I received a nice e-mail from Ms Torres stating my rate would be honored.
Here is what I take away from this and maybe should be remembered for next time.
With the Bolger center offer I acted quickly and negotiated a rate that was not beneficial to me. But I was trying to deal with the problem quickly and confirm a rate for me. Later others including some of whom I will be seeing Jan 1-3 2012 in NYC got better deals than I got by acting quickly. Since I had made a hasty deal (although okay but not the mistake rate)I repented at leisure. Afterward did a little research on the hotel deals forum into previous mistake rate threads and it seemed as if the pot always got sweetened later on with better offers.
So my motto going forward is BOOK IT NOW, DO NOT ACT IN HASTE when hotel contacts you about THEIR mistake. WAIT! see what others are offered compared to you.
By the way I booked the Bed and Breakfast rate $50.00 per night including breakfast in the restaurant everyday. Sweet!
If anyone wants to see Ms Torres e-mail PM me and I may forward it but I do not want to post it on the forum.
PS: thank you RedReeper for your help

Don't feel bad; not everyone could get the 25k. Me, for example. No matter how intense the negotiation, all I could get was the discount. Probably because I don't have any sort of status in HHonors anymore. Or because I'm a poor negotiator. Or because HHonors has annoyed me so much throughout the years I have a really hard time fighting for more of their points.
