I heard that the Argos in Amsterdam will temporarily close soon for foundation work. Anyone care to confirm or deny this? If so when will they close?

Eagle has been closed since the death of the owner a couple months ago, and nextdoor Club Fuxxx has more twinks than anything else. IF the Argos will close as well, might as well forget about Amsterdam. shadesofgrey1x Nov 14, 11, 12:12 pm I will not argue that. I want to give it a final spin this Jan, but if the Argos is gone then it is not worth even that. Surprisingly Dirty Dicks reopened a few months ago. They promised the Eagle would as well but, I heard that never happened. dcleatherdaddy Nov 24, 11, 12:11 pm I was in Amsterdam in late October and learned a bit more about the situation. Argos will likely close temporarily. The bartender told me they would try to keep the upstairs open but the co-owner later told me the foundation work would likely create open sewage in the basement and they would have to close until the work is complete. The Eagle had water damage due to a fire in the upper floors. The owner had passed away and his elderly (and straight) relatives had no interest in repairing and re-opening. The bar was put up for sale and eventually sold...meanwhile, the water damage hadn't been addressed. It's apparently quite a mess (rotting partitions and mold) and will take awhile to fix. My understanding is that all the leather bars (Dirty Dicks, Eagle, Argos and Fuxx) are now owned or co-owned by one of the leather shops (Mr. B or ROB, I forget which). Accordingly, there are resources and interest in having all four open. Stay tuned. shadesofgrey1x Nov 25, 11, 12:57 pm any mention of a timeline on this? dcleatherdaddy Nov 26, 11, 3:33 pm I can't confirm the timeline but I believe Argos was going to close very soon and be closed until some time in early 2012. I think the Eagle was hoping to open sometime in early 2012. Argos has a facebook page. They last posted Nov 4. You might send them a message to see if you can find out more. DLNYC Nov 26, 11, 6:40 pm I was in Argos in August and have to say I wasn't impressed. Didn't ever make it to Church, but hear this is quite good with many gear nights? Will probably try it out when in AMS in a few weeks. From what I gathered last time, this is sort of "the" place now. FlyBalletGuy Dec 5, 11, 11:04 pm We'll miss you Andrew. So sorry you left us too soon. Adam1222 Jan 5, 12, 6:07 am Any recent data points on AMS? Will be there next Sunday night. Thanks. |
