GLBT Travelers - Movie: Weekend

Great new movie, currently playing in London (and, I think still in Chicago) and I presume other cities. So many issues explored, including the whole idea of how we worry so much about what people think of us, yet we're hammered over the head with the straight lifestyle constantly. I seldom think much about movies after I see them, unless I am in a discussion of what movies to see or that I've seen lately. This is one of those that I have not stopped thinking about. Wonderful acting (and actors easy on the eyes) and so many other things to recommend about it. See it if you can. One of my favorite movies of the year! (My ONLY criticism might be that some might find the drug use depicted too much - if it bothers you, try to overlook at as the movie has so many other things going for it.
Just to make it travel related, one of the characters, takes a trip! ;)

I saw it about a month ago in NYC.
I think that practically everyone has had a similar experience... Those of us who do mileage runs or short weekends would be prime candidates for a weekend like in the film.

The edited post above eliminated the need for this post.
Watched it about a month ago with the BF. I loved it, him not so much. I really understood where both guys were coming from and how the movie had to end the way it did. I am really looking forward to seeing more out of the Weekend team.

Strange that it has already closed in Chicago and just opened in London last weekend (and it's a British film). I saw lots of advertising for it on billboards in the tube stations.

Yeah it was only in chicago a couple weeks. Usually movies at the Music Box are there a lot longer than a couple weeks.

Already here and gone in DTW. Neither of us thought it was very good. It was at the Main Art in Royal Oak. We were there 2nd week and there were 12 in the auditorium.

95% on the Tomatometer, 96% of top critics, for people who find such things interesting. It doesn't get too much better than that. I'm not sure what the number of people in the theater has to do with anything, however.

I saw it in NYC it's first weekend and found it interesting, tho talky and slow.
Watched it on INFINTY ON DEMAND and couple of days ago and still have the same opinion.
BTW it's doing very well at the box office, for a gay-themed indie.

Perhaps because lot of the reviews I've read say it's not a gay movie, that it's themes are universal; the characters just happen to be gay. However, a good share of the movie is about the politics of being gay and relationships when one comes out, so I think they miss the boat to a certain extent.

As of Nov.6th it has grossed $416,385, a huge amount for an indie film (that's since it opened Sept. 25th).
How anyone could say it's not a "gay" film is beyond me.

Yes, the sex was what convinced me! ;)

"Weekend clocks a one night stand between nearly-closeted lifeguard Russell (Tom Cullen, above right) and artist Glen (Chris New, above left) who meet at a nightclub. To their mutual surprise, the one night stand spills over into the next day...and the day after that?

What's so special about that? I call it "the Dutch way": First sex, than date. :D Always worked for me, until I moved to puritanical Boston. :td:
(yeah, I'm Dutch)

I saw it today in Ann Arbor and thought it was a pretty good movie. Decent turnout for a 4:45PM show and there were quite a few straight people in the audience.

I was at the Sunday 4:45 showing too! Too bad I didn't read this thread until today. Thought the movie was quite good, but also wondered about all the drug usage.

Small world:) We had the two end seats to the right and were a few rows from the back. I actually prefer the larger theater but my friend I saw it with likes the screening room better.

I saw it at the London Film Festival where we got to do Q&A with the director, the two leading actors and the cinematographer. Great experience.
The audience was by no means all gay. Just because the lead characters are gay doesn't mean that it's a gay film, i.e. a film just for gay people. I've had to stomach plenty of male-female sex scenes in other films so I think it's perfectly permissible to let a straight person suffer through this film's sexuality. Take your sister, take your mother, take your gran - I bet they'll find the drug scenes much harder to swallow than the sex. What an accomplishment.
For those of you with Netflix streaming, at least in the USA, I see that Weekend became available today.
