Hi all!
I apologise if this isn't an appropriate place to post this but I have a smallish (okay, fairly large) dilemma!
Planning a leisure trip from MAD to HKG in Y. It would be 4 of us travelling and oneworld carriers are the only option really since we all have either Sapphire or Ruby status.
Possibility 1:
Route: MAD-LHR-HKG-LHR-MAD on BA (and IB on the return MAD flight)
Outbound times: 16.30-19.50(-)22.00-16.50+1
Inbound times: 09.00-15.00(-)16.30-19.50
Outbound would be on BA 27 on a new 77W fitted with the new World Traveller product. Return to LHR would be on a repetitive 772.
Possibility 2:
Route: MAD-AMM-HKG-AMM-MAD on RJ (includes a 1 hour technical stop in BKK both ways)
Outbound times: 16.40-22.35(-)02.10+1-14.25+1(-)15.25+1-19.05+1
Inbound times: 21.25-23.25(-)00.30+1-05.15+1(-)07.50+1-12.20+1
Aircraft to/from MAD with the great 321s RJ have and to/from BKK/HKG with their all new 332.
So,
by considering the following:
· RJ is about 200 euro cheaper per ticket
· Lounges at both AMM and LHR
· RJ routing is about 4h longer
· Tight connection/missed flight at AMM
· The BKK technical stop (has anyone done this before? Would we have to deplane?)
· The all new World Traveller cabin yet to be experienced on board BA's brand new 77W
· RJ's new 332
· Op upgrade on BA would merely be to WT+, on RJ it would be to Crown Class
· KFC at AMM (ha!)
· To me, economy meals on both carriers are on a par with each other so no consideration here
· By flying these 4 segments on RJ, I would qualify for Royal Plus Silver (why not!)
· Any other factor you can think of
Would you pick RJ or go with BA? BA or RJ?
Please help me choose! I feel that both options' pros and cons balance each other out which isn't getting me anywhere at this point!
Thank you so much in advance and sorry about the long post :)
EDIT: PS No, I'm not considering AY because of the long connection times in HEL (8-10 hours each way)... So much for 'The Shortcut to Asia' :p
