Well, you are going out of SDU and at CNF there is a plane change since the CNF-BPS flight is on Pantanal Linhas Aéreas (controled by TAM) so luggage has to be moved so any delay can easily lead to a missed connection for you and/or the luggage. CNF isn't that large, so getting from gate to gate should be relatively fast provide you can disembark from the plane quickly.

Any reason you chose TAM? I imagine you already booked it so telling you TRIP flies SDU-BPS non stop doesn't do you much good at this point.

One hour transfer time in CNF should be fine. You go from plane directly to waiting area and then on to next gate when they call the flight. No new security etc.

That's really helpful. I would consider paying any cancellation fee for peace of mind and a shorter journey. When I booked up I avoided any airlines whose websites were exclusively Portuguese (includes TRIP). TRIP did not also feature on Expedia, and Kayak simply linked to TRIP's homepage. Came across eDreams.co.uk today who seem to offer the flight and an English based engine. Will phone TAM today. To add another layer, the TRIP flight appears to codeshare with TAM who partly own TRIP!

Really grateful for any other thoughts.

Normally they codeshare to many destinations so probably TAM have that flight scheduled on their system and you only need to request a change as they sell it as a TAM network flight.

Before cancelling (if TAM cannot just switch the flight) make sure you can actually book flights on TRIP's site. It's often not possible to book tickets without CPF and/or Brazilian credit card.
There shouldn't be a problem with one hour connection at CNF
