US Airways 2011 Grand Slam Promotion - Need Help with the Grand Slam Promo?

The GS Promo is winding down, and with that come an influx of questions from first-timers, people who are wondering if they can still participate, those wondering how to hit a tier threshold, etc.

Before posting in here or creating a new thread, consider if your question is better-suited to one of the existing master threads - hotel stays (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/2011-grand-slam-promotion/1250843-hotel-stays-gs-2011-master-thread.html), hotel transfers (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/2011-grand-slam-promotion/1249967-hotel-transfers-gs-2011-master-thread.html), credit cards (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/2011-grand-slam-promotion/1258835-5-credit-card-hits.html), car rentals (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/2011-grand-slam-promotion/1254254-car-rentals-master-thread.html), netflix (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/2011-grand-slam-promotion/1256172-netflix.html), officemax (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/2011-grand-slam-promotion/1259390-office-max-master-thread.html), skymall (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/2011-grand-slam-promotion/1258240-skymall-not-dm-shopping.html), shopping mall (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/2011-grand-slam-promotion/1251495-dm-shopping-mall-master-thread.html), or all other partner hits (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/2011-grand-slam-promotion/1253538-other-partner-hits-not-shopping-mall-master-thread.html).

Not sure where to post? Read the FAQs below and post your question and someone will be happy to help.

Now for some FAQs:

Is it too late to get started? For the 2011 GS Promo, yes. However it's never too early to start collecting hotel points to transfer, complete e-miles and e-rewards activities, and similar things. If you take advantage of promos and opportunities that come up throughout the year, you can easily complete 11 hits (assuming partners stay the same for GS12).

My miles for X haven't posted yet - should I be worried? Check the relevant master threads above. If you have an account on GSScorecard.com (http://www.gsscorecard.com), you can see whether other people who completed an activity before or around the same time as you are still waiting.

The activity date was reported incorrectly (listed as after 11/14) - what do I do? Save copies of all email confirmations that show the true activity date and/or credit card statements showing charges on the true activity date. Contact US Airways Partner Marketing (partnermarketing@usairways.com) and request assistance. They may direct you to contact the vendor for assistance.

I need X hits still - what would you suggest? It all depends on your individual circumstance. Post what you've done and how many you need here and someone will make a suggestion. Note that hits tend to become more expensive as you attempt to reach the higher tiers (24+ hits), so those last X hits you need may cost as much or more as the first 15 you completed.

Any vendors to specifically watch out for? Check the other partner hits thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/2011-grand-slam-promotion/1253538-other-partner-hits-not-shopping-mall-master-thread.html) first post for a summary of any issues and the post below for "good" and "bad" partners. As long as the activity date reported to US Airways is 11/14 or earlier, you should be okay. Some vendors use order date as activity date, some use completion date, some use shipping date, and others use delivery date.

"Bad" Partners - These partners are unlikely to credit as a hit unless you have already completed the activity or are substantially complete:

All Partners as of 11/15

Scorecard Suggestions - These are suggested options for those starting late and wanting to earn some mileage:
It's too late now to complete any activities for GS11. Start collecting hotel points and completing e-rewards and e-miles activities for next year!

As of 15 November, the promotion is over and no further opportunities exist to earn hits.

Excellent idea (and, more importantly, execution) in starting this thread.

One suggestion: multiple members have reported -- primarily in Other Partners -- that the 21st century quote (no policy) has been counting as a hit. Apart from getting called relentlessly by people flogging the policy, this is a no-cost hit, and worth consideration by those getting a late start.

Thanks - I've added it as the 5th hit to the first four, since I'm really not sure how to list it given possible concerns over its legitimacy as a hit.

I put together a spreadsheet to help people figure out the marginal value of a hit and if it is worth doing. Check this link (http://www.theman1000.com/2011/10/20/mbhv/) for details.

Second post updated to reflect realities of 4.5 days left in promo.

As of right now, it's still possible to start from nothing and get 28 hits (although it'll be a lot of work :)).

As of the end of day tomorrow (10 Nov), it will only be possible to get 20 hits, and that number will decrease each day by at least one hit threshold.

Need some help here. I just need one more hit!

According to my own excel spreadsheet, I only have 27 hits. However I woke up this morning finding the bonus for the 28 hit. And since I already have some pending hit, I decided to go for the 32 instead.

So these are the ones that have posted:
1-800-FLOWERS BONUS
AUDIENCE REWARDS MILES
BISCOFF GOURMET SNACKS
BUY MILES - POINTS.COM
CHOICE PRIVILEGES MILEAGE AWARDS
CONVERSION: LA QUINTA POINTS EXCHANGE
CONVERSION:BEST WESTERN GOLD CROWN POINT

DM DINING BONUS,Z PIZZA ,COLUMBUS OH
E-MILES MILEAGE TRANSFER
EXCHANGE MILES

SUPER SHUTTLE CREDIT
TELEFLORA BONUS
THANKS AGAIN MILEAGE AWARD
TRACKITBACK.COM WORRY-FREE TRAVEL MILES
US AIRWAYS DEBIT CARD EVERYDAY PURCHASES
US WORLD CARD: FIRST USE BONUS
VINESSE.COM WINE PURCHASE

I have these 3 as pending:
21st Century Auto Insurance
Network Solutions
Netflix

I just need one more hit.. What do you guys suggest? What would be the cheapest hit that's still doable given there's only 4.5 days left.

Since I am not in the country at the moment, I can't do any rental.
I've tried doing SPG but I can't buy any point since the account is only like a month old with no activity.
I do have some HA miles but I won't be able to transfer those to HHonors and to US Dividend Miles in time.

Any advice is appreciated!
Thanks in advance!!!

Forgot to mention, I did receive an e-Rewards invitation from US Airways a couple days ago with "Get 250 bonus miles for sharing your opinion." I signed up for it as soon as I got it and completed 2 (I think) surveys. Sitting at only $2.25, I don't have enough reward dollars to transfer to US tho.

Would that count be a hit?

I believe the 250 will transfer actomatically. If it posts with an activity date the same as your sign up (or up to Nov. 14), it should count as a hit.

Just in case it does not transfer automatically, go to the redemption page and see if a 250 mile transfer is an option for you. When I got one of these some months ago, I think I had to initiate the transfer. If it's not there, try checking your statement and see if it shows a recent transfer (although I suppose it might not show there either).

I just checked, there's no option for 250 miles under the reward section. There's no record of the 250 mile transfer in my statement either. Does that mean I am SOL?? T_T

Given you've done the cheaper hotel points transfers, I suspect another Reno stay will be cheapest. If you are registered for the US promo, I think you will at least get double miles for the 3rd stay even though you won't get a gift card.

Did you search for 250 miles or in the US Airways section? If not in the latter, sorry, I don't know if you are SOL or if the transfer has already happened automatically.

I checked under the US Airways section. There are only three redemption options: $25 for 500, $50 for 1,000, and $100 for 200 miles..

Yea that's one of the cheaper options on the table for me right now. I might end up doing it just in case the e-Rewards thing doesn't fall through.

This may be answered elsewhere, but when does Thanksagain consider it a hit? When we by the coupon at restaurant.com, or using it, or other?

Thinking about it again, if you don't have to initiate the transfer, it must be automatic! So you should be fine, but it would be nerve-wracking to rely on it.

Although their posting frequency is pretty terrible, in my experience. I did a quote on 9/14 and still have not received any miles (and they maintain that they can't check whether miles are going to post or not). Maybe the second quote I did a few weeks ago will post, but I'm not holding my breath.

They are all over the board, but it's supposed to be the date you purchase the item. Out of approximately 50 reported activities that have posted, on average they mis-report activity date by 3 days, so today would be the last safe day to attempt them.

About half the time activity date is the order date, but if the link doesn't happen automatically and you have to email/call for credit, they use the date you contact them (I believe), which would clearly ruin it.

Of course, you can always follow-up with them or US if they mis-report the activity date for you and it becomes a foul ball instead of a hit.

GSScorecard.com says it's usually within 0-2 days of the purchase of the coupon. There are a few outliers beyond that tho. If you ordered today, you should be fine. The next posting day will probably be Tuesday but it will show up in your Thanks Again account before DM. So if you order today and don't see it in there by Monday, it still gives you Monday to order again or do a different hit.

e-Rewards is such an odd partner. I'm thinking the automatic 250 will post on Tuesday with an activity day of Monday this time. But that's really just a guess and I personally wouldn't rely on it. If you have no confirmation of when it was supposed to post, it would be hard to get that activity date changed later.

I just checked thru my e-mail. I used a Choice referral to sign up and I DID get a confirmation e-mail with the title "Your e-Rewards Reward Fulfillment - Choice Privileges" for the AUTOMATIC transfer of Choice points from the signup bonus. I'm going to guess the e-mail showed up 4-6 days after I qualified.

I think your e-rewards will end up counting (although you may have to fight for it), but if you want to do a backup, another hotel "stay" seems like your only option unless you can do a hotel points transfer (or get someone else to).

Just curious why renting a car isn't an option (I know you indicated out of country, but they do rent cars outside of the US :))? I would think it would be cheaper than a hotel stay.

Haha yea I ended up booking another "stay" with Hawthorn, just in case.

I actually thought about doing rental here, but my little research suggests that none of the car rental partners actually does business here in Taiwan...

Uh...I only see four hits in the first four. Did you edit again?

FWIW, those doing a late PetSmart donation on Dividend Miles Shopping Mall, I had hits post today on two accounts I am working that both show the activity date two days AFTER I made the donation. So don't wait to Monday to do this one.

GS newbie here. I did 12 hits for myself, and am working last minute on 4 hits for two other people, starting mileage / points from literally scratch.

Can we talk about deadlines in general, and chasing points / hits in particular after Nov 14th? Or should that be in a separate thread?

Nov 14th is an activity deadline, not a posting deadline, correct?

Would you start with the partner if you had something ordered / done by the deadline, but it didn't post as it should? How long should one give for the miles & hits to count? Do they do periodic sweeps after the Nov 14th activity deadline

I did edit the suggestions post - and I'll be editing it again tonight to remove those that are considered unsafe. :)

I think we're going down to 20 possible hits tonight, unless someone feels strongly that a vendor is still good or is definitely bad.

Not sure if it's appropriate to post here (mod feel free to move it as appropriate) as I have already got 28 hits posted and got through last night sweep. This is my first year doing GS and I am finding it hard to reach 36 hits (getting expensive with hotel stays). I have done 2 choice stays and still fighting Network Solutions for another hit. So assuming I I have 31 hits and need to do 5 more, which would be the cheaper hits to go for? I would like to do more hotel transfer hits but the only one I did was SPG (1,500 points for Gold conversion). I have enough Hilton points but don't think it's worth it to convert. Any other tips/help with how to get cheaper hotel conversion hits or anything else I might have missed? Maybe Mile Purchase, TrackitBack, FTD too? TIA for all the help.

Nov 14th is an activity deadline, not a posting deadline, correct?
Correct; with the hitch that some partners do not accurately represent the activity date. That doesn't necessarily rule out those partners but it's up to you if you want to deal with possibly arguing later that a date is wrong.

At the top of this thread is a good list of what's "safe" for today. You can also refer to the posting histories on GSScorecard.com to see how often/how long activity dates lag.

Would you start with the partner if you had something ordered / done by the deadline, but it didn't post as it should? How long should one give for the miles & hits to count? Do they do periodic sweeps after the Nov 14th activity deadline
Personally, I give whatever the partner says it should take. Sweeps will be happening for weeks (months?), per the T&C of the promotion.

If something posts incorrectly, obviously deal with that ASAP.

Correct. Items can post until 28 March 2012 according to the rules (http://www.usairways.com/en-US/dividendmiles/grandslamrules.html).

I'm not sure what you mean by, "would you start"? Most partners stipulate 6-8 (or even 10) weeks for miles to post. Most post considerably faster than this, but if it hasn't been 6-8-10 weeks, technically you're supposed to chill out and wait for the vendor to post before following-up. :) Yes, they are supposed to do bi-weekly sweeps through March 28 2012.

I have done 2 choice stays and still fighting Network Solutions for another hit. So assuming I I have 31 hits and need to do 5 more, which would be the cheaper hits to go for?
At this point, I would suggest rethinking the Network Solutions situation. It looks like it counted as the "shopping mall" hit, probably because you were running the toolbar and it "stole" the purchase.

Before you do anything else, completely disable that toolbar.

Then rather than arguing, I'd leave the hit as-is and repurchase Network Solutions correctly, using the link on the US website. You'll pay $26.09 and get back either 1000 or 2000 miles (most are getting 2000). Even if you value miles as low as 1 cent each, it's a net cost of $6.09. I'd take that right now.

For your other 4, remember you get directly earned miles back. So, again assuming 1 cent/mile value, your costs would be: (plus tax)

- TrackItBack $19.94
- FTD $23.98
- Teleflora $37.48
- Hotel transfer? There are several options in the $50-60 range

Just make sure the payoff is worth the cost before you take the plunge.

EDIT: 5 more hits assuming you will already be getting NetSol? Then I guess two different hotel transfers... starting to get very pricey for you.

EDIT again: Yeah, I'm not paying very close attention. Since you haven't bought miles yet, that would be the next thing. 1000 miles for about $38 after tax. Adding in the value of the values it's under $28.

1) For TrackITBack, how do you do it for $19.94, the lowest with shipping I see is $24.95

2) FTD at $23.98, kindly advise which item with shipping that is?

3) Teleflora, I have seen only $40 with shipping? Which item is this please?

4) Hotel transfers at $50-60 range is quite expensive, since I don't have enough posts, I assume I can't use the Coupon connection to do hit exchange? Any other forums you know of that would allow for such exchange since I have a few hits that might work for others that I no longer need.

Thanks again!

I'm taking the cost AFTER the value of the miles you get back from the purchase. So, to be more explicit:

TrackItBack = $24.94 -> 500 miles
FTD = $30.98 -> 700 miles
Teleflora = $44.98 -> 750 miles

Not sure of any legitimate place and it would be against FT rules to do this privately.

Also note my second edit above - would be cheaper to buy 1000 miles than a hotel transfer for you. So perhaps you only need 1 hotel transfer?

My own fault I waited last minute as the scheduled hotel stays didn't work out, now it might be too late to get FTD Bear gifts at $30.98 for many since Monday delivery is $19.99 just for shipping, makiing it $40. the other option is to order a boutonnier with them with the local florist delivery option, this will cost $16.99 + their service fee of $17.99 = $34.98. If anyone else knows of a lower cost item (all inclusive) from FTD that will qualify for the activity date no longer than November 14, please advise. Other suggestions for other cheaper hits welcome too.

Do the boutonniere and schedule delivery for tomorrow (Friday). With so few days left and so many hits already completed, the last few will always cost more, and you don't want to run the risk of a bogus activity date.

I'm taking the cost AFTER the value of the miles you get back from the purchase. So, to be more explicit:

TrackItBack = $24.94 -> 500 miles
FTD = $30.98 -> 700 miles
Teleflora = $44.98 -> 750 miles

Not sure of any legitimate place and it would be against FT rules to do this privately.

Also note my second edit above - would be cheaper to buy 1000 miles than a hotel transfer for you. So perhaps you only need 1 hotel transfer?

On a second thought, Netflix might be a cheaper hit than FTD even if you have to keep it for 6 months. It's $48 but with 1,500 miles, the effective cost is $33 and you can enjoy watching movies as well.

Not a bad idea if you're really a new customer. Some people have been having difficulty with duplicate accounts. There's a netflix specific thread.

i thought i had the following sixteen hits:

1) toolbar searches
2) points.com transfer
3) us airways dining on nov 11
4) thanks again
5) audience rewards
6) amazon through portal on nov 10
7) super shuttle
8) skymall
9) office max
10) biscoff
11) vinesse
12) e-miles on nov 8
13) e-rewards on nov 11
14) magazines for miles
15) a best western stay on nov 12
16) network solutions on nov 11

the bolded ones haven't posted so i put up the activity date. most i'm not worried about but i'm just now seeing that most people who got the e-rewards email for the signup bonus got an email confirming completion of their first survey. i did get the email, and did do a survey (although it was a "quick survey" so it might not count), but haven't gotten a confirmation. i haven't been offered any proper surveys. so now i'm worried that won't post so i'm thinking i should do a backup. i wrote about this on another FT thread and someone suggested asking here. i was planning to buy miles, just because it's guaranteed and can be done last-minute, but maybe there is a cheaper way? i've only spent $77 so far and buying miles now costs $37 or something so it would seriously up my cost.

any suggestions?

Are you US-based?

A cheaper option might be the cheapest same-day deliverable item from 1-800-Flowers.

Alternatively, again if US-based, a same-day Hertz car rental today or tomorrow could work.

The $37 buy points is really the easiest and quickest option, however.

As a final thought, you could decide to not sweat it. You completed all of the activities before the deadline. If they don't post properly (and count as a hit), you can follow-up with US Airways. I'm 99.999% certain you won't be the only one in that position.

One other thought on this:

In e-Rewards, click on "My Account", then "Review Account Statement". Change the dropdown on the far right from "All Types" to "Redemption", and click "Go". It should show whether a mileage redemption has been requested (either automatically as a result of a signup bonus or because you hit $25 in e-rewards currency and requested it).

It should show something like this:

As of Description Amount ID#
10/06/2011 500 US Airways Dividend Miles $0.00

If it shows, you're fine. If not, you may wish to be concerned.

Also note that my lag time was 7 days, which means if you just completed it the activity date will probably be mis-reported as Nov 18 (as an example). So while you'll get the miles, they won't automatically count as a hit and you'll need to follow-up with US (see the last part of my previous post).

any suggestions?
I'm with vysean on this one. If you can confirm the e-rewards deposit in your e-rewards account by tomorrow, you should be fine. There's a good chance it'll still post with the wrong activity date but there's a lot of us in that same boat.

If you decide you want another hit, 1-800-Flowers is still the best deal available. Based on past history, if you order TODAY, it should actually post tomorrow (Monday). I don't think it has to be same day delivery, either. I've done the minimum order ($9.99 book) and it's posted the next possible Monday regardless of shipping.

Other "cheap" ideas:

- If you happen to have Starwood points and you tend to redeem them for airline miles @ 20k with the 25% bonus, you would only lose the bonus redeeming the minimum qty now and it should post on Monday

- TrackItBack would cost $24.94 (and give 500 miles) and should post with an accurate activity date, based on past history.

Also keep in mind $37 to buy miles isn't that bad when you consider you actually get 1000 miles out of it.

I got concerned when I saw that someone's magazine redemption actually states "magazines for miles redemption'.

Does anyone know why mine says:

Should I be concerned? Thanks

Don't be concerned. For some unknown reason, that's how the activity line reads this year. You'll get the hit.

I'm currently at 21 hits. I ha 5 car rentals for hertz late last month which still haven't hit my account . I used a speical promo code to get a good price . Just pick up/drop off rental , didn't use the car. I contacted hertz 4 days ago still no response. My skymall didn't register for some reason so I did another one. Hopefully that goes thru.
If all goes well that will take me to 27 with 1 more To go for 28 .its goin to be an expensive last hit probably do a hotel transfer.
Now I'm worried my hertz for some reason is invalid to receive miles due to the promo code used and if I transfer the Hilton points without then I wasted 10k I won't reach the next level.
I'm not sure what to do .

thank you so much that's exactly what i needed to know! i didn't see anything about that on the e-rewards thread but maybe i just missed it. my e-rewards shows nothing like that nor am i seeing anywhere under rewards where i can initiate the bonus transfer like some have reported. i am US-based so i will do one of the ones you mentioned if i can't find someone to share miles with. i wanted to do 1-800-flowers but i heard there were a lot of foul balls there...any advice on a cheap item that definitely counts?

thanks again! :)

Buy miles posts instantly. I just did it for three accounts and literally as soon as I switched browser windows and refreshed the "Your Miles" page they were listed.

I think you're fine on TrackItBack. There's a very slight possibility that the activity date will be off by a day (show 11/15 instead of 11/14) but I wouldn't worry about it. In fact, I'm about to do another TiB order for another account myself... :)

No Worries - Happy to help... :)

You can't initiate a transfer until you have $25 in e-rewards funny-money. The 250/500 mile bonus for new accounts is transferred automatically.

You can check your account activity (same steps as listed above, but select "Survey" instead of "Redemption". If you have any activity listed in there as of now, you should be fine. If not, e-rewards will for sure be a foul ball and you'll need to do something else.

I'd highly recommend sharing if there's someone on here who still needs a partner, as it ends up being $20 per person and is instantaneous (cheaper and less hassle than anything else at this point).

Otherwise, just find the cheapest item on 1-800-Flowers for same-day delivery. If you're feeling adventurous, you can order something cheaper (say from Cheryl's Cookies) that won't be delivered for a few days. See beltway's thread for details on how 1-800-Flowers reports activity date, but if it isn't delivered today you'll have to follow-up with US Airways for it to count.

The only foul balls with 1-800-Flowers are where people purchased things that either outright stated they would not qualify for miles or were of questionable legitimacy to begin with. As long as you're not ordering something on sale or that cannot be combined with other offers (or similar verbiage) you should be just fine.

There is a thread dedicated to car rentals which is probably a better place for your concern, but it all has to do with when you rented the cars. Hertz should take no more than 13 days to post from the date you return the vehicle. If it's been longer than 13 days, one of the following may have occurred:

You may not have had your frequent flyer number attached to the reservation.
You may not have selected to receive FF miles instead of Hertz Gold points.
Your reservation may not have been properly closed out or associated with your account.
Your FF# may have been entered/stored incorrectly.

Did you receive receipts by email after each rental? Do those receipts show your FF# on them? When you login to the Hertz website, does it properly show your YTD rental numbers?

Really helpful thread - trying to help my wife get a few last minute hits (and wishing I'd been more on the ball in September).

Quicky question - I'm sure I'm being stupid , but what does "exchange miles/points" refer to. Is it points.com? I get buy/share, but I'm lost on exchange. Clearly just missing something obvious, so thanks for the help.

Exchange is a separate hit - quick, easy, and basically free. There's a master thread in this forum for points.com, so take a look there for the details.

Basically, if you don't have any other accounts to exchange to/from, you go create an S&H Greenpoints account, swap 8 US miles for 13 GreenPoints, and then swap those 13 points back to 1 mile. Net loss of 7 miles, but it's a hit.

You are not the only one who had that problem. Check over in the "Other Partners" thread. Not sure if anyone successfully resolved it. (There is a report that someone whose mileage post failed for a different reason worked it out with a NetSol rep and had the miles post correctly eventually.)

I am SO embarrassed that I did this. I figure there is no way to fix it, but I thought I would ask anyway.

I decided to play for a couple of family members at the last minute. Signed them up for a US air acct, e-miles acct, etc. Tried to get as many cheap / quick hits as possible.

And forgot to sign them up for the Grand Slam in general WAAAAAAAH!

I can blame a recent illness and subsequent prescription drug use :p

Anyway. Is there a way to beg US to enroll them retroactively? Or just chalk up to experience? I'm not out much if any money, just time :sigh:

So I have ~73k USAIR EQMs this year and 39 hits that have registered for the Grand Slam promo. I dont expect the last hit (40th hit) to post until after Jan 1, 2012 which will earn me the 5k EQMs. If these 5k miles post in Jan but the activity was in 2011, will they be counted towards my 2011 calendar year status to get me to Platinum (75k EQMs)?

Thanks!!

From the FAQ:
Will the Preferred-qualifying miles I earn count towards my 2012 Preferred status?

Yes. Preferred-qualifying miles will post with a 2011 activity date and count towards your 2012 Preferred status. So I presume PQMs posted after 12/31 will post with 12/31/2011 (or something like it) as the activity date, regardless of the posting date.

I was told there is someone dedicated to resolving GS issues but they don't have a phone at that desk!
