Amtrak Guest Rewards - Club Acela Redemption Worth It?

I will be travelling from NYP twice in a few weeks and am thinking about redeeming 5k points for a booklet of 5 passes to the Club. It looks to me as though it would be nice -- a quiet place with a good bathroom and the possibility of following a red cap to get on board a bit early is worth it to me for two visits.

But 5k points for two visits is a lot, so I'm wondering if there's any value to the other three certs that I probably will not have much occassion in the future to use. Do they trade on coupon connection for anything worthwhile? I can't seem to find anything by doing searches. There is no reciprocity with any other travel lounges is there?

if you are traveling on the acela, I would use 10K points to buy 5 of the first class upgrade coupons. Then you can use the club AND you get to go first class.

Personally, I don't think I would waste 5K points (1/3 of a roommette redemption!!) on the chance to use the Club Acela twice in NYP. That is the worst of the CAs, IMO.

If you are traveling to PHL, BOS, or WAS, keep in mind that a Club Acela day pass is good for multiple visits on the same calendar day, even to clubs in other cities.

A paid upgrade to Acela FC is reasonably priced for NYP-PVD and might be worth it for a peak travel day.

Except i would book it NYP - RTE/BBY/BOS. It is generally only $9 more and would garner you 500 AGR points in BC or 750 points in FC. If you book to PVD you only get 2 points per dollar spent.

Good tip. For two of us, the extra fare to RTE was $12 total, for about 500 extra points.
