Need to go for business, but seems like just about EVERY hotel is booked.
Looking at paying $205/night for the HI in Arlington at this point

There are lots of weekday business travelers in the DC area, so hotels often fill up and fetch super high rates. $200 in Arlington doesn't sound super high to me, especially without some sort of corporate discount. Keep watching though, as I often find more hotels open up the weekend before as people cancel reservations they are not using.

Thanks - good advice.
Actually the $205 rate IS with my corporate discount.
We have a really good rate at the Willard which I was hoping to take advantage of again, but she's lookin' pretty full.
Will keep checking.

+2 about $200 being a pretty good rate. Lot's going on in DC these days. Congress hasn't passed all the budget bills yet and the Super Committee has yet to complete its work. November will be busy.

Nope. For that week $200 in Arlington is not bad at all. I have the Crystal City Sheraton on Tuesday night at $207 which is only slightly above the average of what I have paid there for a weeknight room.
But then again, rates have been going up everywhere and this is no exception.

dc is pretty full whenever it is high season. high season starts at cherry blossom time, and ends right after thanksgiving. dec tends to be slow.

So is the summer, at times. Between the unbearable heat and congressional recesses, people clear out of DC in the summer, for example.

but the visitors and hotels do not clear out. the place is packed with busses and tourists.
traffic is down. if a major traffic disturbing project can be done in summer, it is scheduled then.

I think it is the annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience. About 15,000 to as high as 20,000 visitors for that meeting at the convention center.
