Has any of you, long-time travelers, did this before?

I've been traveling hardcore for over a year now (being newly single and all), and I am a bit tired of being by myself all the time. Is there any way to find a like-minded travel buddy?

I am leaving Vegas for one month in Japan, then one month in Israel, and then two months in Europe. Have to be back in the US by mid-March, and then a month between Boston-NY-DC.

Any bright ideas?

You are very fortunate to be able to take that much time to travel. You might find it difficult to find someone, other than someone who is retired, to travel with you. I would think, however, that this forum is a great place to find someone :)

I was in Israel (TLV) in September and had a wonderful time. The apartment was 2 blocks from the beach and about a 10 minute walk to the gay beach. Have a great time!

Now will you be paying for your travel buddy to take that much time off, if yes I will come with you, all expenses paid of course.

Much prefer just traveling by myself and making friends along the way. Just have all the "networking" sites up and running.

Agreed, thats what I do most of the time unless me and the significant other are going together. But I do understand that some people need to be with someone especially on these long distance trips and there is nothing wrong with that. Hope the OP can find someone or maybe meet someone on arrival, Good luck.

I am actually Israeli, and Israel is a home ;)

Dude, if I were in excess of money, I would find where to spend them, trust me, I wouldn't be asking here for advice, hehe...

Yeah, I make friends wherever I go, sometimes I am just meeting with my old school\work-buddies. Japan's been hard on me though :)

Yes, especially at airline lounges, hotel club lounges, at the gate.
These are prime areas.

It gets more interesting when the lounge has showers or an open bar. Or both.

Haha, Cathay Pacific's "The Cabanas" at The Wing in HKG comes to mind as one of those controversial lounge showers!

Back OT,
iggyray, what type of travel are you planning? I actually just came back from a backpacking trip with a travel buddy (straight :( ) and enjoyed it loads and wouldn't mind doing it again.

I am in NYC, but need to go home for a month, back on track end of January.
January - London UK, February - Germany and Czech republic, March - Italy, April - NYC and DC :)

Not backpacking though, kinda old for that :) 38

I've met decent guys in europe and asia using a european based site, but that's been more for meeting someone in their town while I'm traveling. I suppose if you were to hit some of the FT Gay Dos, or other dos, you might find someone you can get to accommany you for short periods of time. Not many of us can afford to take as much time off as you seem to have for traveling, which sucks, and makes us all resent you. ;)

Right now in Budapest, tomorrow off to Vienna and Prague, and then I will be in Tel Aviv for the whole month of August. Right in the middle of a job search for the coming winter, if nothing comes up, I am gonna be in Tokyo + Amsterdam in the fall, and then we shall see. Feel free to PM me for more info.

How is Budapest? I'm thinking of blowing some Carlson points to stay there soon.

I tried to find travel buddy while ago as well... failed miserably... couldn't match the travel plans at all...
Wouldn't mind finding something more long term after I finish my stint in Asia, someone to spend my Amex vouchers and piles of Avios together... but that is then different story all together

Budapest was great. Initially I planned to spend only two days, but added four more, then went to Vienna for a couple of days, now in Prague - leaving tomorrow for a month in Israel. Yeah, I know. Israel. August.

I travel almost full time and would enjoy a travel partner. I do go to many places, Asia, Australia, Europe, South America. I am happy being alone but sometimes a partner can make things more cost effective and fun.

Mostly based in San Francisco and Chicago. Flyertalkers can PM me to connect further.
