TORONTO, November 3, 2011 - With a collection of distinctive and non-cookie cutter hotels across the globe, why should in-room toiletries at Fairmont Hotels & Resorts be anything less than unique? In partnership with New York perfumer Le Labo, guests checking in at Fairmont hotels this fall will find a new amenity line featuring Rose 31. The alluring scent derives its name from a key note along with the number of ingredients - a hallmark of this boutique fragrance maker, which specializes in creative ingredients (blending) and environmental consciousness.
Edouard Roschi and Fabrice Penot founded Le Labo in 2006 after working as perfumers at luxury beauty brand Armani. Since then they have traveled the world seeking incredible scents and inspiration for their distinctive products. Le Labo's Rose 31 scent offers an appealing aroma for in-room amenities, featuring a chorus of warm, spicy floral and woodsy notes. Appropriate for both men and women, the Grasse Rose scent used in the fragrance is a subtler and less fruity alternative to the product's rose bloom counterparts. Cumin, olibanum, cedar, musk and a touch of amber are just a few of the components that complement the rose essence in the product to give it a disconcerting sense of mystery.
Le Labo Fragrances is a New York-based perfume house which has become known for its collection of hand-made perfumes and home scents available in a limited number of stores and labs around the world. Le Labo composes with some of the world's most creative and talented perfumers and uses only the highest quality raw ingredients.
"With this partnership, we aim to share the art of fine perfumery with Fairmont guests and to transform every one of their stays into a unique and memorable sensorial experience." say the Le Labo Founders. "We are convinced that Fairmont clients will remember their stay for all the good reasons plus one: a new and addictive Fairmont olfactive signature."
Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body lotion and soap products packaged in 40gm and 60gm containers will be lightly fragranced with the Rose 31 scent and are exclusive to Fairmont Hotels & Resorts. The scent, a Wallpaper magazine best perfume of the year and Le Labo's bestseller, will be available in products for sale at Fairmont Stores in Canada and the U.S., and, as of December, online at fairmontstore.com or 1-800-866-9566 from within North America.
Le Labo's concern for the health and wellness of both guests and the environment is a critical component of the company's ethos. Bottles are made from 100 percent recycled water and soft drink bottles, and are themselves 100 percent recyclable. If recycling is unavailable, the bottles also contain a bio-additive that degrades the bottle in a landfill in 2-3 years. All formulas are 100 percent biodegradable as well, and do not contain potentially harmful parabens. Le Labo products are petroleum free, cruelty free and sodium lauryl ether sulfate (SLES) free, using only natural and organic extracts. Le Labo's environmental record is in tune with Fairmont's 20-year-old Green Partnership Program, the luxury brand's award-winning environmental program focused on minimizing the impact of hotel operations on the environment. Not sure I´m too happy about this enhancement...I actually quite like the current Miller Harris products, maybe it´s time to stock up on those.:D

Here at the Farmont Newport Beach and bathroom has an unsettling mixture of Le Labo and Miller & Harris toiletries. Le Labo bottles are rather small unfortunately - 40mls as opposed to M&H 60ml

Sounds like a good change.. Will be at BSH next week for Remembrance Day Long Weekend.. If the stuff appears, I shall report back what Mrs. Maestro and my opinions are..

I was just doing the math...With the generous AC SE baggage allowance I could take home about 1500 60ml shower gel bottles without paying a fee. Do you think forwarding this little special request to housekeeping would be unreasonable? :p:D

I liked the MH citrus scent. It was a bit strong sometimes but much better (neutral) than some random fruity scent that other hotels offer. While you can vacation in citrus, you can't exactly walk into a meeting smelling like "Coconut Cream Pie" or "Raspberry Passion".
Has anyone tried the LeLabo scent? How was it?
Also, does anyone know what the current brand is for the Amenity Kit? I was asked to pick up some Aveda ones for stocking stuffers but I'm not sure they are still available.

I like Le Labo. The Park Hyatt Chicago has a special scent that's specially created for the hotel. I never even touched the Miller Harris stuff, and in my opinion they look and feel cheap. Le Labo is an upgrade (although as some already mentioned, the bottles are smaller - like those that Pharmacopia uses).

The best part of this is you will no longer get a bottle of Citron Citron Soap and Conditioner with a bottle of Fleur du matin Shampoo. Did anyone else notice this lately? At my last 3 stays at the Empress and Macdonald the scents weren't consistent.

Personally I think hotels should offer unscented products that you can customize with your own scent. That way there's no competing scent, plus the scent you already own is likely to work with your body chemistry and is appropriate for whatever events you have planned for that trip.
There was a property I stayed at in Paris that had this wonderful Annick Goutal rose fragrance. Unfortunately it didn't work with my body chemistry and when applied, smelled like a combination of rotten roses and armpit. :(

The transition at the Pacific Rim was completed last week as we were stocked with MH on our first night and it was switched out the next.

Just got back from the Royal York. I didn't use anything but the hand soap, but my comment is this: I don't like it. It's too strong. (Male opinion.)
Case in point, I washed my hands in the morning, and then had my morning coffee. While drinking coffee, all I could smell was "rose". Very off-putting.
Why can't we have a non-scented option?

Am currently at the QE Montreal and it seems to be a leftover mix of everything: MH Fleur shower gel and lotion, MH Citron Conditioner and Le Labo Shampoo and soaps. These are absolutely not suitable to layering with each other! :(
I quite liked the new Le Labo rose which is a dry fragrance rather than a sweet fragrance, but my SO kept on making flower jokes the whole weekend
Definitely much preferred the MH Citron over the MH Fleur which I find too strong. I also noticed that these bottles are much smaller (1-oz size)

With all their leftover bottles you'd think they would at the very least have the shampoo and conditioner match instead of just tossing in competing fragrances. & I agree with Ancien Maestro, this phasing in of products is strange, esp since none of the fragrances go together.

The Le Labo bar is pretty large and generous.. a great change from run of the mill factory type soap bar, to something that seems luxurious and overdone.. Most of the bar was left unused after we left..

The bar does melt or whatever the word I'm looking for very fast though. Mine didn't make it past the 5th day in the shower and I was the only one using it.
As for the scent, at first I started laughing because it seems so similar to Fleur du Matin from Miller Harris. I'm not a fan of the scent even though it is a bit better then MH, but the quality of the product works better for me. The best part is the shampoo bottle of Le Labo is much easier to get the product out since it has the small hole.
But at first when I saw the Le Labo packaging it reminded me of the stuff I use to see at Travelodges when I vacationed with my parents many years ago. But I guess that cardboard look is cool now...

Concur.. the packaging of the Le Labo product is old school, almost like school children wrapping a pre printed package.. but the product is indeed pretty nice, and does melt and distribute faster than the MH counterpart. Its nice to have such quantity in hand, and to have a larger area to distribute during the course of a shower.. makes a big difference.. so two thumbs up by Maestro here..^^
Haven't had the pleasure of trying the shampoo yet.. will have to observe the hole in the bottle you mention about..

Just back from Fairmont Pacific Rim (all Le Labo) and Fairmont Olympic (mix of MH and LL). I never liked the scent of the MH stuff, but the LL scent is disgusting. Why, why, why do they feel a need to foist such a strong scent on their guests? I hate being forced to wear a "perfume" I didn't choose.
I dislike the smell of the soap so much that I dreaded using it even on my hands. The scent lingers forever. I shouldn't have to bring my own soap, but that's what I'm facing if I continue with Fairmont. Ugh.
What is the deal with the "Aveda kits" some have mentioned? I like a lot of Aveda products.

From what I've read here you can request Neutragina toiletries instead of Le Labo for your upcoming stays. But as for bringing your own soap I know what you mean. At first when I use to frequent Fairmonts my toiletries were in the exact same spot as when I checked in after my 4 night stays. I use to bring my own stuff everytime for a while.
But then I started not caring bc really at the end of the day its just soap, I've used the Miller Harris soaps more in the last year then I would care to admit. But I agree with you Le Labo is not much of an improvement in scent vs Miller Harris Fleur du Matin.
Aveda kits you can order for a $10? additional charge and contain a variety of their products in small quantities.
Ancien as for the shampoo it's just easier to get out of the bottle really at the end of the day :)

Same experience as others. A mix of old and new stuff at QE earlier this week... I feel like I got the second class citizens mix and I was in a suite...
Couples with a horrible check in experience (Platinum, guaranteed early check in which did not allow me access to my room until after 4... and no phone call as promised).
Why, o why, can't they get this straight.

Fairmont, I have to admit, try and do what they can..
My experience usually is the late checkout, I often phone day of checkout to the front desk to double check that the late checkout is correctly understood.. even then, the room key times out 3 out of 5 times and we end up visiting the front desk for another key for the late checkout extended..

I found a Miller Harris Citron soap bar in box, spirited away in my luggage! Now my own bathroom smells like a Fairmont. :D
It used to be that if you wanted boutique amenities, you had to stay at a boutique hotel. But lately, even large hotel chains are offering travelers that little something extra.
Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, for example, recently partnered with New York-based fragrance line Le Labo. Guests get an exclusive amenity line in Le Labo’s signature Rose 31 scent, a blend of warm, spicy floral and woodsy notes. Guests checking in to all 64 Fairmont properties will now find Le Labo shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body lotion and soap products in their baths.

LOVE the (no-longer-so) new Le Labo toiletries at the Fairmont. In all fairness, I've actually purchased the Le Labo Rose 31 perfume in the past (which is technically a men's fragrance, but works very well for women as well) so I was very familiar with the products.
