I posted a while back about some great deals available at Avis' New Hyde Park office (location code AB8); well, they're back. I got a rate of $155.22 for a 6-day, 23-hour rental of a compact, using my AARP AWD number. Added Avis coupon MUWA178 (which expires 12/15/11) to take $30 off the rate, for a total of $125.22 plus tax. No extra charge for returns to Manhattan, Brooklyn, JFK, LGA, EWR, or Jersey City! Oddly enough, if you rent for a full 7 days instead of 6 days, 23 hours, rates are substantially higher.
If you don't mind schlepping to New Hyde Park to pick up the car, this is a great deal for a metropolitan area car rental. The Avis office will pick up from the New Hyde Park LIRR station by pre-arrangement; the office is also walking distance from the N22/N22A bus route, which connects with the F train at 179th Street/Hillside Avenue.
