What ho, no stay reports at all for Perth? Time to fix this.
So last weekend was CHOGM 2011 (http://www.chogm2011.org/) ("rhymes with phlegm") and I popped into town for two nights to meet a friend. He was staying here and paying rack rate, viz. A$590/night (); I booked on points at a rather more reasonable 25k pts/night. :p
Good! ^
Location is super central, right on Hay St in the middle of the CBD, a short walk to the station or the river.
Like most Oz IHG properties, the building itself is old, but the lobby and rooms are recently renovated and in very good shape. They're also very quiet despite the central location.
For no obvious reason (I'm a lowly Gold these days), I was bumped up into an Executive King room, which is slightly larger and gets a "free minibar" (consisting of a half-bottle of wine, a bottle of water, peanuts and chocolates), free wired Internet and a filter coffee kit.
Again for no obvious reason, both my friend (who was not upgraded) and I also received a free full-sized bottle of wine.
Bad! :td:
World's slowest elevators. At least there were three of them, so you only died of old age while waiting inside them, as opposed to while waiting for one to arrive.
Elevators and silly season prices aside, the property was quite good and I suspect I'll be staying here again next time I'm in Perth. The IHG alternatives certainly don't look too appealing: the IC and the 2nd HI are both in Burswood next to the casino and zip all else, and the CP gets consistently worse reviews despite being pricier.
