Hilton HHonors - Now Diamond But Will Fall Short of Stays to Requal.

I made Diamond for this year (2002) based on last year (2001). My Diamond card says valid thru 4/04. However, I'll likely fall short of the 28 stays for this year to requal. (but now exceed stays req'd for Gold). When will I lose Diamond status, and if I lose status prior to 2004, will it affect my existing award res. for 7/03 which includes a blackout date waived at the time of booking due to my status? Also, is any offer possible that might preserve my Diamond status? My father failed to requal. for Gold for this year but got extended Gold status through an offer to extend status for a certain number of stays by a certain time.

I would call hhonors in dec to see if they would extend your status - never hurts to ask. Your stay is fine, as long as you were a diamond at time of reservation, not time of stay. I am planning on making several reservations before my status dies in dec.
If your card says good thru 4/04, what's the problem? Isn't next year 2003?

If your card say Apr 2004, then you'll be Diamond until then even if you don't have 28 stays this year. Just make 28 stays in 2003 to remain Diamond beyond 02/2004.

shadow & empress: i have doubts that the card date controls. you must reqaul. each year per the program rules. also, my father's gold card reflected valid thru 4/03, but when he fell short of the stay reqmt based on 2001, he fell to silver for 2002 until he met the stay reqmts of a special offer which was extended to him tp extend his status for 2002 thru 4/03.

Please note, many stays earlier in the year counted double for HH qualification. Sometimes its easy to tell on your online account, but I would call the HH cust service number and they can look it up.

Of course, you had to be targeted for the double stay promo, which many people were not.

Exactly my point. Even if you were targeted, it was difficult to tell if the 2x was for 1 mo or 3 mo. I called HH to see I was elgible as I didnt remember any letter stating so (HH cust service said I was).

Regarding the double stay promotion... Hilton sent out an e-mail in October, 2001 saying members would get either double stay credit towards 2003 status for either January or through March. It read as follows:
------------------
If your travel schedule makes it possible for you to meet the Gold VIP qualification requirement of 16 HHonors stays or 36 nights in 2001, you will receive double stay credit toward your 2003 HHonors VIP status for every HHonors stay you have between January 1 and March 31, 2002. If you are not able to meet the stay or night requirement, just stay once
between November 1 and December 31, 2001, and you will receive double stay credit toward your 2003 HHonors VIP status for every HHonors stay you have in January 2002.
---------------
You can check which stays qualified online at hhonors.com by finding asteriks (*) within each line of your record of stays.

Well I can only comment on my personal experience. My card indicates 4/2004 and confirmation from the Diamond desk that my DIA status is retained through 2003 and I will only need to requalify for 2004 status.
