Hilton HHonors - FF1B: multiple companions?

Do you think one paid fare might have two free companions using FF1B? I'd get two coupons, at 40K each, but pay one fare.

For those who don't know what I'm talking about:

The FF1B award is a free companion fare in the lower 48 and Alaska (no Hawaii) for only 40,000 points. It is only offered by UA, US, HP, AS, and Midwest Express (YZ).

IMO, this is one of the best awards anywhere for maximum value to points and nice flexibility.

Notes: Can take a long time for them to figure things out, but once they do, you're fine. May need to call back if you get a slow one!

I'm not so sure this is a good deal... it mentions that its with the purchase of a full-fare ticket... if they take that to mean the highest fare class, you could easily buy 2 discounted tickets instead of paying the highest fare.

No, it means any published fare. So if you are flying somewhere where the cheapest fares are $400 to $500, you are getting a free ticket for 40,000 points, which could be, for example, 20,000 miles transferred into points.

For example, here is the details from UA T&C: "Certificate will entitle the person named thereon to one free identical ticket for a travel companion when purchasing a ticket using any coach class fare for flight within the 48 contiguous United States."

Talking to myself, I know, but here goes:

I just booked two of these companion fares.
A $475 fare, and a $407 fare.
That's about $.01 per point, pretty good if you ask me.

And I should mention that these awards, at least with UA, are only limited in availability by fare class -- they are NOT subject to FF inventory restrictions.

Finally, the reward traveller is free to change dates (though not routing) with no penalty. The paid fare is subject to the restrictions of that fare.
