we decided to go via Bus from Buenos Aires to Puerto Iguazu. Since we want flat beds, 3 companies remain: Via Barriloche, Empresa Rio Uruguay and Crucero del Norte. For me, all companies look the same, therefore I would like to hear your oppinion, which company to choose (All have about the same departure time). Furthermore, all have a video system, but I guess it is not Video on demand?
Thx

Im not a bus traveler, so I cant share first hand experience.... but I am sure that buses here do not have AVOD.
Also, my mother in law is from Posadas (Misiones), and every once in a while she will decide she is afraid of flying so she will insist on taking the bus... when she does, the only company she will take is Crucero del Norte, which appears to have the most comprehensive schedule and the most modern fleet of vehicles.

I used Via Barriloche on that route and it was very new, very nice and quite comfortable (as it was getting from BsAs to Barriloche). Splurge the extra few dollars for the completely lie flat seats, and I recommend the top level for the best views. The video systems show videos which are, not surprisingly, often in Spanish only, occasionally with English subtitles. Definitely not VOD, just a movie or two of the bus company's choice. The food provided is like coach airline food, adequate and reasonable. Beer or wine was available.
All in all the bus experience was good, and a nice way to see some of the country while traveling.

Of the three I've only used Via Bariloche on a trip to Neuquen and had a very comfortable journey with a decent dinner and light breakfast included. Big reclining seat with pillow and blanket supplied.
I have to admit I'm not a lover of long overnight road journeys but if you're going to do it then the coaches here are some of the most comfortable around.
I saw one of the latest Via Bariloche coaches with the personal video screens in Retiro a few months ago and it looked super.
Most of the films I've seen on the Gral Belgrano coaches have been in English with Spanish subtitles.

No they didn't sadly.
I was given a local branded whisky instead. They really should stick to producing the Malbec and leave the whisky making to the Scots. :p

Heck, I agree 300% with you. I refuse to sell local 'whisky' because I consider it toxic. So then, I ask myself... how can you palata RSJ...?
RSJ is no better than Old Smuggler, Criadores and all the other local 'whisky'....

Luckily for me I am a novice when it comes to drinking Cognac so I have nothing else to compare RSJ with. :D ^

I'm also looking into a bus trip from Buenos Aires to Iguazu in a couple of weeks. Thanks guys for sharing your tips on bus companies.
Some questions for those who've done this before:
- Are bus scheduled published in English and available online?
- Are bus schedules strictly adhered to? I'm asking because I'm afraid of missing my flight out of EZE after a long bus ride.
- Would you recommend booking bus seats in advance, or is it okay to book the day before or day of?

Follow up..... booking close to your travel dates is OK unless your selected dates are on a long weekend, national holiday, or during vacation periods.

Here are some websites where you can purchase bus tickets...
http://www.andesmar.com/shop/default.asp?lang=en
http://www.voyenbus.com/inicio
http://www.micropasajes.com
http://www.plataforma10.com
Please note that most of these sites have an English option... look for the tab or button to toggle and most of the site will have English labels and some instructions. Dont expect Oxford English and not all the site may actually be bi-lingual.

I peruse but don't shop carefully - they seem "so so." Note - if you are flying LAN, you probably can't buy duty free if you have a LIM connection because you will not be able to put the liquids in your checked luggage and you cannot bring liquids onboard @ LIM - you will be searched at the gate for your US-bound flight. If you have a MIA connection, you can shove the liquids in your checked bags before baggage recheck. (This is why I generally pay not much attention to EZE duty-free.) LIM prices aren't so hot, but at least there is a decent Pisco store at the airport and you can buy something interesting there.
Note - EZE has arrivals duty free, so you can check that store while you wait for the circa WWII baggage carousel to get cranked up and see what the prices are. You can buy there, and put it in your checked bags before leaving Argentina.

They are all quite similar. I'm sure you've seen the time tables, but that's a long trip...be sure to pay for the best seats. It's typically just an incremental increase. Also, be aware you can easily byob in addition to the couple drinks you'll get. May help you settle down for the long overnight...
It'll be worth it once you're walking amongst the falls at Iguazu...have fun!

You should PM the OP and ask them as it's quite an old thread and some posters don't come back to the forum after their holiday.
You'd never catch me using the bus...it's just too long a journey. I wonder how the prices match up with the air fare? Bus travel used to be very cheap but prices have risen considerably.

Hello Frog84... welcome to FT and the Argentina Forum. Its great to have another "local" here, I look forward to seeing more of you on these parts of FlyerTalk. The other board regulars and can always use another pair of fingers to assist those needing questions answered, etc... :D ;)
BTW, have you seen the thread on the upcoming Do here in EZE...? If you are in town those days and want to meet FTers in person, that is a good chance to do so....

An update for anyone else in the market, we used Crucero del Norte and it was very nice. Go for the nicest/sleeper seats, I got around 7 hours sleep on the journey, hit BsAs running the morning of arrival.
