Hilton HHonors - Internet Connection through the Television Set

I'll be at the NY Hilton next week and they don't offer high speed intenet connectivity, except through the television set/keyboard. I'm debating leaving my laptop at home and using their system.

My concern is that I will be taking part in a meeting through an MSN private chatroom and I want to be sure that I'll be able to join the meeting through the television connection. MSN requires the downloading of a tiny piece of software to use their chatroom. Will the TV connection have this software or allow me to download it?

I would definitely bring your laptap.

Don't rely on their system. You can surf, but not good enough to rely on if you have business to do!

I find the tv set keyboard interface rather clunky and hard to navigate. Take thy laptop of use the business center compter internet access.

I'm with jfd, the keyboards are clunky at best. If you type like I do, your messages will look like the Enigma project messages from WWII when the rush was on to decipher the U boat codes. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif And I don't believe there is a way to download software. You can open some attachments, but certainly not all of them. Bring the laptop. You'll be glad you did.

Good decision - bring your laptop.

Another problem is when the web page you are accessing needs to download a large amount of data. A number of times I received the message that it can't download the page.

To TripleMiles

I know to download and open a Word document, you either need Word installed on your computer or have to have a Word Reader installed. The TV internet is not a true computer in the sense that it doesn't have application type programs installed. It is a browser.

I frequently send myself links as html attachments, so maybe that is what is opening. I have never tried to open an excel spreadsheet or word document. I use it to check my email quickly and respond with short messages to put out fires but most of all I use the connection to surf to Flyertalk to see if there are any mileage bonuses I am missing while on the road.
