Allow extra time for travel to
Milwaukee General Mitchell International Airport
Due to freeway construction on I-94, the main entrance for Milwaukee General Mitchell International Airport (MKE) is currently closed. The suggested arrival time for MKE is still 90 minutes prior to departure, but please be sure to allow plenty of time for travel to the airport. Alternate suggested routes are below.
From Downtown Milwaukee to General Mitchell International Airport:
• Traffic from I-43/94 SB will not be able to exit to Airport Spur. Traffic will need to exit I-43/94 SB at Howard Avenue and follow the detour to MKE Airport via Howell Avenue South.
• Traffic from Downtown Milwaukee can also use I-794 EAST (SB) to Layton Ave Westbound to Howell Avenue Southbound as an alternate route to access MKE Airport.
From General Mitchell International Airport to Downtown Milwaukee:
• Traffic from MKE Airport will not be able to access I-43/94 NB to Downtown Milwaukee via the Airport Spur (Highway 119. From the Airport, traffic will need to exit to Howell Avenue and travel north on the detour route to Howard Avenue to access I-43/94 NB.
• Traffic heading to Downtown Milwaukee can also use Howell Avenue Northbound to Layton Avenue Eastbound to I-794 WEST (NB) as an alternate route.
General Mitchell International Airport to/from I-43/894 (to/from Madison/Beloit):
• Traffic from I-43/894 EB (from Madison/Beloit) will still be able to exit at Airport Spur and access the airport via the I-94 EAST (SB) C-D Roadway.
• Traffic from the Airport traveling to I-43/894 (to Madison/Beloit) will be able to travel west on the Airport Spur (Highway 119) and access I-43/894 WB via the I-94 WEST (NB) C-D Roadway.
