Anybody here registered and active on railroad.net? I just cruised through it and it appears to have lots of interesting topics. Do NARP members post anywhere? Don't see a link on the home page.

RogerD408 Oct 30, 11, 9:37 am You might try TrainOrders.com, lots of postings there. Even split passenger trains off to a set of threads of their own but some duplicate in the regions too. AlanB Oct 30, 11, 11:15 am TrainOrders requires a paid membership if you really want to participate in this. You can read it for free, but you can't see pictures and IIRC you cannot reply without having a paid membership. As for Railroad.net, I'm a member there but rarely participate. Their moderators are way over the top on what you can't do IMHO. LuvAirFrance Oct 31, 11, 1:16 am TrainOrders requires a paid membership if you really want to participate in this. On trainorders, if you're just a lurker, you can see the pix (but can't make them full screen).... but if a thread gets really long you can't read all of it -- also lurkers can only read the current messages. Bob H jackal Nov 4, 11, 6:53 am I'm a member but rarely post there. For me, it's not because of any complaint about moderation (I haven't had any problems there, but I haven't really posted enough to have the opportunity to have any problems), more rather just a combination of a lack of time and a focus on other topics elsewhere. I'm a member of probably half a dozen different rail forums (although not a paid TrainOrders subscriber--the concept of paying to participate in a forum is abhorrent to me), but I post on none now simply due to a lack of time. However, if I had to pick one that has the best community feel and balance of practical info to pure foamerness :p, I'd say Amtrak Unlimited is the best one. Say hi to some of my old friends from over there while you're there. Daze Nov 4, 11, 9:54 pm Trainorders is good for rail news and activity in general, and many photographers post terrific work there, but the passenger trains forum is mostly posters who bash Amtrak, criticize mass transit, and take every opportunity to start a political rant against passenger rail and transit. Amtrak unlimited is much more useful for someone who actually rides trains and is looking for information to help improve their trip. Daze LuvAirFrance Nov 5, 11, 12:46 am Train haters use their time to post to train forums? Another sign of cultural degeneracy. rrdude Nov 7, 11, 8:23 am I'd have to "pile on" and agree that Amtrak Unlimited is the best for general information on "all things Amtrak, ESPECIALLY AGR" While I've been posting on/off there for only two years, suggestions from other posters have SAVED ME thousands and thousands of AGR points, and/or helped me figure out logical ways to earn more thru partners. LuvAirFrance Nov 8, 11, 12:29 am Wow, an oasis of value on the Information Superhighway. darben Nov 11, 11, 8:11 am For those of you who can get to Scranton PA this interesting story may motivate you Canadian Pacific Railway "Holiday Train" Heading For Steamtown National Historic Site http://www.nationalparkstraveler.com/2011/11/canadian-pacific-railway-holiday-train-heading-steamtown-national-historic-site9000 |
