Travel Technology - Upgraded to iOS5 and can't send mailView Full Version : Upgraded to iOS5 and can't send mail Guercifgal Oct 28, 11, 12:12 pm I have an iPhone 4 and upgraded to iOS5. I can receive emails on my comcast.net account, but I can't send them. Help! FXWizard Oct 28, 11, 1:17 pm Here are a couple of potentially stupid questions (if you've already done these, great), but ones that helped me resolve some email problems I had when I upgraded to iOS 5: 1) Did you go back into your email account settings and verify they were still present and correct? I had to re-enter passwords on a couple of my email accounts before they would work. 2) Have you tried turning the iPhone completely off, then back on? Guercifgal Oct 28, 11, 1:37 pm Yes, I checked the passwords. My Yahoo account receives and sends without problems. Yes, I turned it completely off and then on again. richarddd Oct 28, 11, 1:44 pm Are you sending from within Comcast's network or from somewhere else? Guercifgal Oct 29, 11, 8:05 am It doesn't matter if I'm sending an email to someone else with a Comcast email or without, it still doesn't go through. richarddd Oct 30, 11, 8:11 am The question is whether you are on the comcast network, not who you're sending to. Some ISP's implement security measures that apply if you're not on their network, even if you have an account with them. My ISP requires additional settings if I'm sending email using my account when I'm not at home. nmenaker Oct 30, 11, 9:15 am That usually requires just another level of SMTP authentication. It should have been setup this way but you might have to go into the settings and ADD that function. It shouldn't matter then what network, or cellular you are connected to. richarddd Oct 30, 11, 2:38 pm Exactly. If you're on the network, that setting isn't an issue. If you're not on the network, it might be the issue. Guercifgal Nov 10, 11, 7:42 am Sorry for the delay in replying. Please explain this to me like I'm in kindergarten. What kind of additional SMTP authentication to I have to add? I've upgraded the OS on this phone several times, and this is the first time I've had any problem with sending email from my Comcast account. Thanks. pseudoswede Nov 10, 11, 9:42 am The most common additional setting for SMTP authentication is the needing your login credentials (your comcast.net mail username/password) to send via comcast.net's SMTP server. On Android phones, when setting up or editing e-mail accounts, you have the ability to test the connection during the setup process to ensure it's working. nmenaker Nov 10, 11, 9:43 am Sorry for the delay in replying. I've upgraded the OS on this phone several times, and this is the first time I've had any problem with sending email from my Comcast account. Thanks. I won't go that low, kindergarten, but I can try to explain based on simple settings You need to find your COMCAST SMTP server settings, host name, user id (you) password (yours) type of authentication and server port number. These should be available at your account settings under email. Go into the mail settings, into the comcast account, into the account, scroll down to smtp server, click on that, click on primary server, make sure that is ON, then setup the outgoing mail server with the settings from above. If that setting cannot be edited, go BACK one step to the SMTP page (it will say SMTP at the top) and scroll down to add server, and put your server settings from above in there and turn that server ON. You most likely want to have SSL authentication to ON and will find success with server ports 465, or 587 here is another link for more help. focus on posts 4 and 7 I think. http://forums.comcast.com/t5/E-Mail-and-Xfinity-Connect-Help/iPhone-sent-mail-is-rejected/td-p/1095737 or this link, post 2 has a good screenshot http://forums.comcast.com/t5/E-Mail-and-Xfinity-Connect-Help/Comcast-Mail-from-the-IPhone-Exchange-client/m-p/732981#M155952 and here is just a bit more detail of the settings setup https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2404523?start=0&tstart=0 Guercifgal Nov 10, 11, 1:21 pm Thanks, nmenaker and pseudoswede. Checked the SMTP settings and rebooted, and sent a test email without a problem. Now, when I check for email received, it says it can't connect to the server. Ugh! I didn't change any of the incoming server settings. |
