Just got an email from Fedex mentioning the Small Business Saturday from AMEX.
FedEX is going to give a $25 gift card (amex gift card) to the first 30,000 people when you claim it on their facebook page on November 1st.
Terms & Conditions
Offer available through 11:59 p.m. ET on November 7, 2011 or while supplies last, whichever is sooner. Offer is open to legal residents of the 50 U.S. and D.C., 18 or older. Limit 1 per person/email address; limit 2 per household. American Express® Gift Card terms apply. Not redeemable for cash, except where required by law. Use at U.S. merchants that accept American Express Cards. Additional limitations apply. See Cardholder Agreement. Issued by American Express Pre-paid Card Management Corporation. FedEx makes no guarantee that every person who signs up for a card will receive one. Subject to offer terms.
Those are there terms and conditions. I didn't receive anything else explaining more about it but seems pretty straight forwardward.

Thanks for the tip....... but you mention two dates: Nov. 1 and Nov. 7. Which is it? And, if they are celebrating "Small Business Saturday," neither of these dates is a Saturday. As usual, I am a little confused......

I think it's available from Nov 1 through the 7th since it said "Offer available through 11:59 p.m. ET on November 7, 2011 or while supplies last,"
That's the way I see it but don't quote me since I only received the email and I just copied the terms and conditions but it did say it started on Nov 1st.
Doesn't hurt to check on the 1st :D
Edit:
Sorry didn't realize you found the email. So I responded before looking at your second post.

It's confusing to me as to what precisely to like. We have a FedEx account and got the offer directly. You have to be amongst the first 30K to do the FB like. I can't find reference to the $25 offer on the FedEx page.
Well, I guess on a reread of the above, I am too early. I need to try Nov 1. Does it state Nov 1 where? GMT? CST?

On the terms it stated through nov 7 11:59pm ET so I assume eastern time. It's awesome since you can have two per household. So 9pm for those in west coast!

My take on the offer is that on November 1, you must be one of the first 30,000 people to claim a gift card. Should they still have gift cards available throughout the week, you must claim it before 11:59 p.m. ET on November 7, 2011.

So the real question is: how many minutes will it take after 12:00 AM ET Nov 1 for all 30k to disappear? Perhaps the holiday will keep it alive a bit longer.

More: http://about.americanexpress.com/news/pr/2011/sbs-soc.aspx "FedEx recently announced it would inject $1 million into the small business economy in support of Small Business Saturday by distributing 40,000 $25 Shop SmallSM American Express® gift cards for use at small businesses on November 26. A total of 30,000 gift cards are available, first-come-first-serve, beginning November 1 on facebook.com/FedEx. FedEx will distribute an additional 10,000 gift cards directly to customers."
The gift card promotion is essentially the kickoff for the Am Ex second annual Small Business Saturday, which really is on a Saturday--November 26, specifically. If you are an Am Ex cardholder and pre-register for the Small Business Saturday Promotion (registration date TBA but sometime in early November), you will receive a $25 statement credit if you spend $25 at a small business on November 26. This is in addition to the gift card giveaway mentioned in this thread.

You need to register for this offer on their Facebook page. If you are among the first 30,000 you will get a $25 gift card. Registration begins on 1pm EST, Nov 1.
This is different from Amex's small business saturday promo. For that you must register your amex card and if you spend $25 or more at a small business, you will get a $25 statement credit. You can get a credit for each amex account you have. If your authorized users have a different account number you can get one for them too. You need to register before your purchase.

I got through using Bob's link. Here's the scoop.
1. Register an Amex card of your choice.
2. Follow the link to eligible small businesses in your area.
3. If you shop at one of the small businesses on the list on Saturday, you get a $25 statement credit toward your purchase.
My search revealed 159 stores, but nothing for my most common categories for small business shopping, Restaurants and Aerospace/Defense.
Not exactly the promo we thought it was, huh?

Tried to sign up for one for Mr. Kipper, but it is limited to 1 per Facebook account. I did receive a message stating that I'd already registered for one, and as such, was not eligible to receive another one, even though it states that it is 2/household.

And after I clicked on "Sign up", I got this redirect to Allow permission on Facebook.

Edit: I've been trying on Firefox with hubby's account, and I have to say Chrome wins where Firefox keeps freezing... so, try using Chrome if anyone is still having issues?

No way am I trying to be disrespectful. It's just people don't appreciate things others do these days. I am not basing it off your comment but rather the comments you may or may not have seen on facebook. If they didn't offer this promotion in the first place they wouldn't receive such negative remarks.
We just think differently I guess :D My brain is limited unfortunately as I don't understand corporation thoughts of process the majority of time. Therefore you probably have a better understanding of how it would have gone smoother. Maybe I am biased towards it since I had a small business. Some of the comments on facebook astonished me. Many people were complaining that the servers were down, the form didn't load, etc. While I get that a promotion that isn't well-coordinated (example: not having the form ready to go exactly at 1 PM) disappoints people, it was free money if you could get it, and if you didn't, you didn't lose much, except for time.

Yes, FedEx could have added additional servers, but what would the cost have been for that, in addition to the $750,000 in gift cards? This is why I dislike the promos that start during 8-5. I'd rather have promos that starte outside of normal business hours. I realize that if they start them outside of those hours, they incur greater labor costs, but they don't decrease other companies' productivity. :D

Typical American mentality of entitlement. I was raised better...if I hadn't secured a gift card, I would have shrugged my shoulders and continued on my merry way.
Having said that, FedEx should have let people register over the course of a week, let their "like" numbers steadily grow, and then randomly pick the 40,000 winners of $25.

I'm the same way. It was free money, and I'll use it, but if I didn't get one, I wouldn't complain. I didn't get one for Mr. Kipper, since he doesn't have a facebook account, and it wasn't worth the time to create one for him, only to then try to get one.

I got through to get my card after the complaints were posting here and the other sites. So yes, I did laugh because the only reason so many people did not get a card was because they felt their time was better spent complaining about Fedex then hitting f5 a few more times.

It's not the first time a company underestimated the interest for a popular contest/giveaway/promo/sale on the interwebs and it certainly won't be the last.
Sure they could have gotten additional servers, but I wouldn't be surprised at all to hear that they had some extra redundancy/servers built-in and that it STILL proved inadequate when faced with a larger than expected turnout and the hundreds of thousands of simultaneous requests it created. Spikes in traffic like that have been known to overwhelm much sturdier and larger sites.

I got one on my FB account during the initial mad rush, then tried to get one for my husband and kept getting white screens and not able to load. I was able to complete the registration using this link and got an email confirmation.
I think it might go through. There were so many people online all at once I can see where the inventory software thought they were all taken but the heavy server load didn't allow many to go through, it timed out and so the GC's were put back in inventory.

People do realize this was not hosted on the Fedex servers, but a marketing company they hired for the promotion, right? One based in a part of the country having weather related outages from a freak snowstorm last weekend? One that has handled large campaigns of over a million people in the past?
It's not like some IT guy at the Fedex data center set up the page.
Why would they need to bring in additional hardware? So instead of giving away $750,000 in 90 minutes, they could have done it in thirty? Would it have made any difference?
If they did that the posts here, and the 90 pages on the slick deal thread would all be about how it was some kind of sham, there was no way they could go through that amount of cards in ten minutes.
Fedex is giving away a million dollars in no strings attached gift cards, with the other 10,000 going to their existing customers. Not sure how so many people could be so bent out of shape over that.
If anything they deserve credit for letting people know they were having issues, and keeping people notified they were working through them.
In the end Fedex gave away a million dollars to support small business. They generated a ton of publicity from the event, with days of press about it. Hundreds of thousands of people clicking on the same link at the same time for 30,000 cards is of course going to have the majority of those people coming away empty and saying it wasn't fair and all the other thousands of nasty posts about it.

Any word on how they were selecting the 10,000 existing customers?

So far that seems to be a big mystery. I haven't seen anything that even hints at the method that Fed Ex will use to distribute the last 10,000 cards.

Glad to know I've not just missed it. :)

Their release says they will be given directly to customers, but that could mean anything. If it were me, and this is nothing more than how I would do it. sSnce it's to promote Small Business Saturday, I would send ten to each store and hand to the first ten people that come in to do something that day.
Whoever thought giving away $1 million dollars would be easy? I thought it would be easy, along with a team of committed FedEx colleagues who also have the purple blood of FedEx. In a social media savvy world, it’s been no secret that FedEx teamed up with American Express on their second annual Small Business Saturday program including a commitment to give away 30,000, $25 gift cards on our FedEx Facebook page. (The remaining 10,000 cards were given directly to some of our customers to distribute.)
Sounds like cordelli's idea may not be too far from the truth. They may have sent the remaining 10,000 gift cards to small businesses to distribute.

We worked immediately to correct the situation, and once the app was functional, fans snapped up all 30,000 cards in less than an hour.
I gave it about 20 minutes or so of refreshing and just gave up. My time is more valuable than that. But, thanks to sun_aa posting that other link, I got in on the deal late last night...considerably more than one hour after the deal went live...confirmation email is safely tucked away.
I wonder if there are going to be some disappointed folks who thought they were getting cards? Maybe I will be one of them????
Of course, maybe I will be due the amex giftcard equivalent of IDB compensation if it doesn't come through:D

I signed up a family member using the link I posted and he got the confirmation email last night. Let's see if the card actually turns up.

I think anybody who bypassed the facebook page link and went directly to the still functioning form once they took the facebook link down and posted it was over will be disappointed.

Either way, there will be no disappointment involved.
Although you seem to take such pleasure saying
we will be dissappointed, that you have to say it many times! :o

I've used the word disappointed once in this thread, in response to somebody saying they hoped they would not be disappointed
Not sure how that qualifies as
Although you seem to take such pleasure saying
we will be dissappointed, that you have to say it many times! :o
But whatever.

I'm not expecting much, but then again, I have the attitude that it's free money if it arrives. If it doesn't, not a big deal. :D

Got the confirmation e-mail yesterday...but unfortunately realized I'm out of the country that weekend. DOH! Guess I'll give my parents the card and have them buy me something fun. :D

The gift cards don't need to be used on Nov 26, do they? It's the statement credit from AMEX which requires spending on that day. Last year they extended the promo through the end of the year. Am hoping that they will do so this year too.

They are asking you use the cards at a small business on November 26th but it is not a requirement.
You can use them whenever you want at any merchant that accepts the American Express Card (with the usual restrictions some places put on giftcards)

Oh awesome! I'll still try to use it at a small business to support the spirit of the promo.

if you registered any of your AMEX cards via the amex link, the terms specifically say that the registered AMEX card(s) MUST be used on Nov 26.
Here are the terms and conditions - https://sync.americanexpress.com/sbs2011/terms
(just posting this in order that people do not confuse the rules for the GIFT CARD with the rules for the AMEX credit).

Not sure why people keep confusing the issue by mentioning the credit, which this thread is not about and is a totally different program.
My gift card came in the mail today.
You can use it where ever Amex cards are accepted whenever you want to use it. It has an expiration date of 10/2020 on it, though the funds can be moved to another card if I can't figure out how to spend $25 by 2020.
