Problem is US flights arriving @ 8 / 9 am are at peak time. I think AZ want 1 hour (but I can't remember - could even be less) but I certainly wouldn't leave less than 90 minutes
Should be enough but you aren't leaving massive margins
Have a gd flight^

90 minutes is not a lot, you might have wanted 120. However if all goes well that's enough, it's not as if you'll be standing in a queue for that long.

Thanks for your replies.
Would I need to go through security after Passport control ?
Do I need to recheck my bag or does it go right through to Ancona?
What terminal do domestic Alitalia flights depart from at FCO?
I think that these are all the questions I have.

There is only one terminal really, however the area from which all Alitalia european flights leave is called Terminal one. Your luggage will go straight to Ancona. Then for security I believe there may be a check immediately after getting off the aircraft (or at least that's what happened to me last time) however once you are at passport control there won't be any more.

Exactly. You will get off the aircraft, through security, then through immigration.

To visit family in Le Marche. It will be my first time flying there as I normally take the train from Rome. Don't know what to expect at the airport in Ancona.

Expect nothing, and you will be pleased with the difference... :p

Lucky you for having the chance to get there by plane. I normally travel to Pescara (south of Ancona) and, despite the relatively short distance from Rome, the trip across the Appennino can be a really painful experience, especially by train

Bump on this connection thread. I searched but could not find anything resembling my situation, any adivce would be much appreciated.
I have a round trip ticket on Alitalia from JFK to FCO in Februrary. Am looking to take a weekend break after completion of business which would have me purchase an additional Alitalia roundtrip ticket from FCO to ATH. On the return the ATH-FCO flight arrives 08:05 and the FCO-JFK departs at 10:25. My question is about connection time and luggage, can I have bags tagged all the way through if on seperate tickets? And is 2 hours enough time to connect from EU flight to International departure?

Yes you can have the luggage checked through by asking the check-in agent, and 2hrs20 will be plenty for the connection.

Expect queues though at 8 am but agree that unless plane is badly delayed you're fine

Timewise you would be ok but a word of warning, ATH is unstable these days. Strikes can delay flights quite impredictably.
I would sincerely think about it. Do you have travel insurance, eg Amex, which could compensate the risk of the two separate itineraries?

Similar situation for me, but this unfortunately is already booked.
Flying IST-FCO, FCO-LIN. Connection time in FCO is 1 hour 5 minutes. No checked bags. Is this enough time?
It's all on one PNR purchased from AZ website. Didn't notice the tight connection when purchasing.

Agree, although IST does require passport checks right? In future perhaps allowing an hour and a half would be better.

Correct. IST isn't Schengen so I'm a little concerned.
EDIT, I just noticed there was a slight change to one of of the flights and the connection time is now 1 hour 15 minutes. A little more breathing room. An AZ phone agent said it's fine. I'll report here how it goes.

As someone noted previously, the published Minimum Connection Time for international->domestic at FCO is 60 mins (so of course, the AZ agent will say 65mins "is fine", let alone 75mins). And indeed, it should be OK - but a slight delay in the inbound flight could result in you missing the FCO-LIN flight (or being unloaded from it in advance, even if in fact you race through the terminal and make it to the gate on time - see here (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/klm-flying-dutchman/1296175-perhaps-they-shouldnt-warn-ground-staff-late-arrival-if.html) for a similar experience from another FTer on KL at AMS...)
However, the big difference for Oakshadow, compared to the previous question from dc2005b, is that Oakshadow:
a) is travelling on the same PNR (and presumably same e-ticket), so if the connection is missed, then it should be AZ's responsibility to sort it out; and:
b) There are hourly flights FCO-LIN, so if the first flight is missed it shouldn't be a problem to get rebooked on the next one.

FCO-LIN is much more than hourly. At peak times it is one every 15 minutes ;)
The only thing is, FCO is great at losing luggage on short connections, so I would avoid checking in luggage if you can.

As promised, the outcome.
It was fine. Although I was a bit tiffed we arrived at a remote stand near B, took the airbus to H, only for me to have to walk all the way to B again for the LIN flight. I had about 30 minutes to spare.

Punctuality these days doesn't seem to be a problem for AZ...:)

I have a not-so-much related question:
I’m flying MAD-FCO-NRT. Will there be a passport control in FCO?
Just want to know if I need to get “il bollo” in my passport before this trip, since I won’t return to Italy prior to this trip.
For those who don’t know what I’m talking about that’s an annual passport tax which is required for Italian passport holders leaving from Italy to a destination outside of Europe.
If there is a passport control does anyone know if I can get il bollo in the airport?

Yes, you have to clear immigration.

Yes, because the tax is due when you travel outside the EU:

I believe there's some shop authorized to sell it, e.g. in the train station, but I'm not 100% sure.
I'd buy before leaving Italy. The validy does't start the day you buy it. In the pdf, you can find info about that.

Grazie!
But do i have to clear immigration only as arriving pax or also as departing pax?
Because they only care about it when I'm departing, not when arriving.
The problem is that I am not in Italy now and won't be back before the trip to Tokyo.

You clear the immigration when you cross the 'schengen' virtual border, both directions.

Dear Friends,
I have a connecting flight via FCO form BCN to KIX, 1:25 hours layover, AZ operated.
I do not fully understand what to expect. I guess there is a passport control somewhere (the Schengen one) at FCO, but the security chek question is unclear.
Is there a security check before going to the KIX gate, like in AMS or CDG, or may I proceed directly to gate like in America ?
Second question, not FCO related : I travel on a Biz ticket (I fare). Is it a difference between Biz and Eco on the BCN FCO leg ?

Correct. You walk airside from a Terminal to another, and when you reach the extra.schengen area, you'll cross the 'border' and clear immigration. There're 2 main lines as usual, EU/EEA and non-EU/EEA.
but the security chek question is unclear.
Schengen to extra-Schengen: no security controls. Extra-Schengen to anywhere: security controls.
Second question, not FCO related : I travel on a Biz ticket (I fare). Is it a difference between Biz and Eco on the BCN FCO leg ?
Cabin: same seats, but the middle-site is blocked and configured as a table. some.extra-food, lounge, more miles.

What is MCT between T3 and T5? I have a flight arriving from OTP on RO at 09:55 and a departing flight on US at 11:50. I need to collect and check luggage. Is that doable? I know shuttle between T3-T5 has an Italian schedule, but I assume I can get a taxi or walk if needed, for the 900m distance...
I have done this before 3 months ago but I took the morning flight from OTP which gets in at 07:35, and then I did not really know my way around this airport...
Are 115 minutes enough? Should I plan for more?

You need to COLLECT and CHECK luggage to the US in 115 minutes?
Are those two separate tickets? no way to interline that all the way to final destination?
You should make it but I wouldn't feel comfortable.

RO does not have a luggage agreement with US, so I would need to collect luggage from OTP, and then check it in for my US flights. They are on separate tickets :(
Does US have a 60-minute cutoff for check-in, or do they expect more time?

There is an 80% chance you'll make it and a 20% chance you will lose your ticket and blame yourself for it. Is it worth it?

I just reached my destination, I figured I come back with my experience:
My TA managed to book the 2 tickets on same PNR, so on both systems (RO and US) all three flights showed up. At check-in in OTP they tagged my luggage all the way to SFO, which was the biggest win of them all.
RO403 arrived today ~15 minutes early, and given my luggage was tagged all the way I could have saved almost 45 minutes. I "could" because I failed to look for transfer sign, I thought you must go to Terminal 5 anyway. At 10:00 I was in the T5 shuttle, at 10:10 I had my boarding passes. With another potential 50 minutes to spare until check-in deadline, I spent that time in the lounge. The check-in agent confirmed that as long as luggage is sent, you don't need to go to T5 just to pick-up boarding pass, you can do that at the Transfer Desk or at the gate (assuming you check-in online without printing BP at home).
