Argentina - Volcan Hudson Red Alert - Keep an eye on the South of Argentina

Volcan Hudson, in Chile (Region of Aysén) is on red alert, the area surrounding it has been evacuated, and is at the highest alert level, with a possible imminent major eruption. The Volcano is due west of Comodoro Rivadavia. Something to keep an eye on if you have travels to/from Ushuaia or El Calafate, etc. coming up.
Chile has wisely placed most of its volcanoes such that Argentina typically gets most of the ash.

One saving grace is that it's a lot further south than the current one.

I have to fly to Ushuaia in under 2 weeks, do you know if there's any information from any of the airlines yet about this? Or is it just a case of "wait and see" at this stage?
Appreciate any information.
Not any disruption to air travel from what I've seen.
Latest news is that activity in the volcano has neither increased nor decreased. As it stands I suspect airlines will be operating as normal.

It is wait and see. It is possible that nothing happens, except steam. As you can imagine, they take their volcanoes seriously down in those parts. Chaitén blew in 2008, Puyehue blew in June and could go again at any time.

Lets pray it continues to do steam...... and only steam....

Agreed. If I don't get to Antarctica this time, I don't know when I'm going to be able to get this much time off work again :(
Just as a possible contingency plan, do you know if there's a decent operator that runs a bus from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia?

It looks like the volcanic activity has diminished somewhat and an imminent eruption is not anticipated at this time. There are no buses that are decent enough to make a 50-hour journey bearable!

Might be a moot point anyway. Qantas just grounded their entire global fleet. If I can't get to Buenos Aires in the first place, the whole thing's a bust.

That's all you need....hope everything works out for you.
My gripe with these Chilean volcanoes seems insignificant but I was wondering if I should send a compensation claim in to the Chilean Government for the damage the volcanic ash cloud has done to my nice white garden furniture.

Assumption of the risk. Buying anything white in Argentina and expecting it to last as white (except of course, clothing that is brought to a lavanderia which is going to be bleached to death) is just plain silly. :p

I did tell her to buy black but she knows better.
